When the draft was happening for Vietnam, I was about to head off to college. I couldn't possible endure the thought of four years in the military and considered myself extremely lucky to get a draft number of something like 324. I lost some friends to the Vietnam War.
Six years later I joined the Marine Corps on my own decision and it was one of the best decisions of my entire life.
Life's interesting in that your perspective constantly changes with age and experience.
