I got a call from my good friend here in Pa. to come down and take a 97 GTS with 11,000 miles on her out for a nice long test drive. He is a salesman at a Viper dealer. I currently own an 85 vette and a 2000 vette, both sticks. After 15 min. on the street, and trying to get the feel of her, I headed for the highway. YEEHAW!!! Nailing her thru 4th gear was a real eye opener! Looked down and was going 120 which seemed like it took a matter of seconds! And I never redlined her, most was 5000 rpm. The seatbelt tightened and enclosed me in the cockpit and it felt AWESOME!It was 45 degrees out and there was plenty of wheel spin. And as one Viper member told me...keep her pointing straight, when hitting 2nd. I did but she still was a lot NASTY!!! After a few miles, I nailed her in 3rd. thru 5th. and let me tell you...this car rocks! She came up in the front end and never came down. The torque is AMAZING in these cars! I Hit 120 and had to slow down. Vipers don"t know the word quit. She was PULLING and PULLING like I never in my life ever experienced. After exiting the highway we came across a nice long straight, and I took her to 30 mph in 1st. and nailed her, she slid out on me for at least 100 ft. and had more , I hit 2nd at 5k and man! it all broke loose, I never redlined her, was kind of scared in my own little way, this car demands your attention and respect. I hit 3rd, and grabbed some pavement too! 4th. and 120 mph and I slowed down! She came up and stayed up and had so MUCH MORE!!! What is it like to drive a Viper? It is the most AWESOME car on the planet! Now if I could just find a 2001 red/silver/black I"d be sleepless. By the way I couldn"t sleep that nite , so I had to call my buddy and go have a few cold ones! What an evening! Looking forward to owning this AWESOME car! Can anybody help me find a 01 Red/Silver/Black? Thanks Guys!!! I have enjoyed reading the posts and Viper subjects here. You guys are really great!
Best to all of you! Dave |

Hee Hee. Viper bug has got him!
Vette owners never even give the Viper a try just because it's the "New" Sports car out there. Good Luck in finding your dream! Gerald |

My first experience was driving my friends 97GTS around a few blocks and into the highway. I almost broke my wrist when i did a holeshot from an intersection. I couldnt hold her down, i was trying to get her straight and the owner was telling me to point her straight, but hell no, she wanted to break my wrist): I fell in love and bought the 2000 blk GTS..Dude, you havent seen nothing yet, until you own one...

Brandon,
Send me an Email after the weather breaks. You strike me as more responsible than most 16 year olds I've meet. I'm in northern Illinois and would be glad to take you for ride... |
