I'm sure others have read this in Motor Trend.... and I know they are estimates... BUT with the SRT10 coupe staying at 500HP, the new Z06 will certainly be smoking the new Viper coupe if it's pulling 126 traps...
what a bummer... how can Chrysler let this happen! Even if they release the Viper coupe with 500HP and bump it up a year later to beat the Z06, it's a lame thing to do.... especially for all the inital coupe buyers..... |

To Dodge's credit, they've never done the GM incremental HP thing to Viper owners. Usually a Viper HP change coincides with a new generation. For several years, GM has been goosing up the HP each year on the Corvettes and Z06. Pity the poor GM-fanatic who couldn't wait and bought a 2004 GTO or the Ram SRT-wannabe Chevy SSR, and now in 2005 the two vehicles are making 400 HP. Resale value on that guy's 2004 "performance vehicle" just went into the toilet. Although I agree that a Viper HP increase is necessary to keep the Viper's King of the Hill status, it would be a real departure from the norm if Dodge upped the HP on the SRT coupe after just one year.

11.7 or even better is believable, but 126MPH trap speed is unlikely if the car really has "only" 500HP. Around 121MPH is more like it.

I think it would be ok if they introduced coupe as it is and together with it picked up one of the blowers around (e.g. paxton) and introduce SRT-C Supercharger Edition as a factory option for extremes. This way they could keep the same base engine (reliability is a key) for both coupe and cvt and at the same time they would smoke out vette and not loose 'status'. What do you think?

You forgot the ...plus DRs and nitrous.
I'm making 547RWHP/607RWTQ, and my best time is 11.8@127MPH. Quicker ETs are easily done with more skilled driving than I can do as yet (and better traction). But the trap speeds are a very accurate indication of actual power. |

when they introduced the first GTS, it had a horsepower bump from the RT/10's to 450HP.... I agree with what you are saying, it would be a bad move to bring the new coupe out with 500HP, then bump it higher the next year to keep the Z06 back..... they need to release the coupe with at least 550HP.... the current SRT-10 with 500HP pulls 120-122MPH traps..... the corvette with have similar power, and be a couple hundred pounds lighter..... it will be quicker, and faster..... 125MPH sounds about right.... Quote:

Quicker perhaps, faster, no. Lighter weight helps with how quickly the car can get up to speed, and how easily it launches. The HP + TQ come together to make the car fast.
Owner dynos show that most SRT-10 Vipers actually have around 525HP/570TQ already, and the C6 Z06 has nearly 100 FT TQ less, but a couple hundred pounds less to carry. The Ferrari F50 had 513HP and weighed only 2700lbs (450lbs less than the Z06), and still managed only 122MPH trap speeds. And the Porsche GT2 weighs the same as the C6 Z06, and has just under 500HP and does the 1/4 mile in 11.9@121MPH. Also the Pagani Zonda weighs only 2750lbs and has 553HP from it's 7.3L V12 and manages a 11.9@124MPH time. So I'll have to see some actual production C6 Z06 Corvettes tested before I believe a 126MPH trap speed from a 500HP car. |

Fiske , pass what your smokin, please...
A couple hundred pounds isn't going to give someone 5 mph!!!! LOL!! Take a passenger in your car down the 1/4 mile, you'll loose perhaps a tenth or two (car length).. I'll be a *** monkey's uncle if the Z06 is going to jump from,what....116mph'ish to 125 mph as they claim?? I've heard the new Z06 will have twin Iridium Nuclear Reactors..hmm.. LOL! Gerald |

the z06 will outperform the srt10, maybe not by much but it will, and on top of that it will be a better everyday driver, which most vette drivers buy the car for anyway. i dont understand why the new coupe doesnt have more than 500 hp, if they dont bump it up in the next year or two im getting a ferrari i guess, but a modded coupe would be cool too

really..... so the current car is pulling 116 MPH with 400 HP, and you increase the power 25% with another 100HP, what, you think it's going to only pull 120MPH? a couple hundred pounds is a worth more than you think..... you're missing the point.... the Z06 will be trouncing the Viper.... and that's bad news....
