Default Choosing a Color.....

This is the first time in my life... I have been able to "choose" a color.... it's not as easy as I thought. I visited every brand car dealership on Saturday, and cruised the paint web sites the rest of the weekend. I'm looking for something original, but not overstated... no purple and lime greens

The color has been the "Pewter" for years.... when I bought the paint, and picked the color, it was only on a few Corvettes, saw it with black stripes on a Cobra... and fell in love with the combo.... but since that time GM has put the color on EVERYTHING. A few weeks back I pulled up to to a light, and the car in front of me, the truck behind me, and the SUV next to me where all "Light Pewter Metallic". Enough.

I still like the titanium and silvers... right now this is one color recommended by Ed I like:

I'm also considering Windveil Blue and also Tungsten Grey... both new Mustang colors.

I'm hoping to have stripes similar to the VCA raffle car

For the Blue..vintage mopar B-3. Light blue metallic. Doesn't sound good, but was on a 78 Volaire with the "KIT" car setup. For some reason it really looked unique. definetly understated.

For Silver vintage mopar either A-1 Buffed silver or A-4.

Sorry, to say this but I love that corvette blue....can't think of the name....but it is on the 90s Gran sport vette.

Good luck.

But here is another great silver blue. Silver steel from the 06 300c/300csrt8, check the different cars in the thread and look how lighting affects the color. Please ignore the bling, I apologize in advance for my more esthetically challenged fellow 300 owners. This color looks like molten steel to me, steel silver gray with a hint of blue. Looks different under different lighting too, as you can see from the cars pictured.

Those blue's look faded out IMHO. If I had a choice, I would do a deep midnight blue with stripes (pick your color) and clear coat it 7 times. The darker the paint the better the polished rims look, which seems to add depth, definition, contrast and a bit more of an aggressive stance overall. Faded colors just seem washed out to me.

Be careful if you pick a BMW color that it is mixed to American Spec. and not European. The Germans are so sensitive to environmental paint issues that the paints are very heavily water based and chip much more easily. My M5 had to have the entire front end, front fenders, ENTIRE hood repainted at 18,000 miles due to chipping from normal driving. I put 148,000 miles on a Q45 and it looked 100 times better. I complained a BUNCH to BMW and the above was their explanation when I got to the zone/corporate level. And yes they paid for part of it, which adds to my thought that it must be true.

After looking at Cooperheads and the VCA raffle car a little more, thinking in a totally different direction..... I found a color called "Orange Effect" sort of similar to this 350Z color:

LOL - THIS IS TOO FUNNY JAY! i am doing the same EXACT THING RIGHT NOW with my race car!

as soon as i start narrowing down a color, suddenly, BAM! off in another direction!

on your corvette, i wouldnt do the orange color. it looks good on that nissan but not an old vette. i went to an automotive paint store and asked if they had any old paint books. they gave me a few, and i have been staring at chips for the last few weeks. the color chips in these books give you a better idea of what the color really looks like rather than staring at them on your computer screen, especially when you can take the books outside.

cruise through sales lots, stare down every car you you see. it will come to you. good luck.

what color is the top?

Not for an old Corvette.... Just that Lee knows Corvette colors! The color is for my "Never Ending Viper Project"....

The Orange I am looking at is called A17 Orange Effect. It has a bit more metallic and maybe is a tinge more toward copper than the color on this Z.

I have looked at so many car lots and color books in the Dupont paint store my eyes are crossed. I have looked at colors that go on everything from mopeds and motorcyles to Peterbilts and Freightliners and every car in between... Some really cool colors in the over the road truck and Honda motorcyle color books!

Dupont has some awesome colors in their "Hot Hues" line, but I'm trying to avoid tri-coat paints....

Midnight Blue is the hue to do, I'm telling you. Atleast try a quarter panel for me, before you go all the way Jay.
