I hate to say it but they are AWESOME cars. That said the Z06 should be the base model and the ZR1's should be the Z06 and priced accordingly. Now at +100k I do not think it is all that.
Now the base vette should be the chick's version or maybe called a Camaro. Sorry but the base model really does NOTHING for me and I ama vette guy at heart. I will keep my C5 Z06 before buying a C6.![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() As nice as it is I still do not think it compares to my GTS.

I think it's rather funny that the Vetter's argument was always the $15G's savings when compared to the Viper and now they're championing a new edition that's $15G's more than a Viper (and probably 20 HP).

I saw a couple of them recently to. The chrome rims really suck and make the car look terrible in my opinion. Chrome wheels should be banned period. Both for the vette and viper.

Okay...so it has 20 more HP, but it's still driven by a computer, not the driver!!!

Some of the ZR1's had silver painted whells that looked awesome. I did really like the look of the 19"/20" wheels on them over the Z06's 18"/19"s. The interiors are also very nice with the 3lz package which is long overdue. It includes real leather dash, door panels, console lid and of course seats. Really classes the Z06's and ZR1's up. Basically they are just a fast luxury car anyway with the heated seats etc etc etc...

Personally I like the looks of the C6 way better then a C5. In terms of performance the C5 does not measure up. It's also hard to compare a base vette coupe with an MRSP of $46,950 to a base Viper coupe with an MSRP of $88,145. I would hope you would more car for twice as much money.

I have to agree. Chrome wheels do not belong on a real sports car. Both Viper and Vette should do away with them.

1st - C6 Z06 2nd - C5 Z06 3rd - C5 4th - C6 Vettes need some shape. The C6 is a door stop if I ever seen one. Atleast the C6 Z06 and C5's have some shape to them. Nothing compared to the C2 and C3's but still shapely.

Exactly! When I was in Detroit during the Woodward Dream Cruise, we came out of a restaurant and I saw a Vette cruising on the other side of the street (Woodward) coming towards us (so I couldn't see the wheels yet). I couldn't tell if it was a ZR1 or not. For $100k+, noone should ever have to wonder if it is a base, Z06 or ZR1!

I normally don't care about how a car looks, but I can't see myself ever buying a ZR1. I'd sooner throw a crate motor, Stoptech brakes and news wheels and tires on my FRC C5 (which has an advantage of being 350lbs lighter than a ZR1). The C6 chassis is basically the same as the C5's, so I just can't see why I'd spend that much money on something thats basically going to handle like any other Corvette with decent tires on it. Hell, the C5 and C6 Z06s are supposed to have more track-tuned suspension than the ZR1.
I really thought about a ZR1 before putting money down on an ACR. The biggest thing I liked about it was the brakes. In the end, I chose the ACR for three reasons: 1) Its One Lap performance; 2) 650bhp in a 'vette or Viper is something anyone can do, but the aero work on the ACR is not; 3) GM quality (there wasn't any mention of whether or not many of the C5/6's issues were corrected for the ZR1 or not; I wonder if their clutches will stick?) Its still a cool car, and probably a better choice than a Viper for a lot of people. If they got rid of that hood window and put some sort of functional aero work (underbody?) on it I'd consider it. |

I must say I love my 02 ACR (especially the non-chrome BBS ACR wheels) as well as my 08 Z06 (except for the chrome wheels that are going to be changed). Last edited by GBS; 08-25-2008 at 03:14 PM. |

Yes it looks like every other Vette on the road and in 3 years there will be 6000 of them out there BUT almost nothing (including my 08 Viper)will be able to beat that car in acceleration ,top end speed and braking.Roadracing(heatsoak issues )is a different story though.

I don't know, I'm not a big chrome fan either but we have seen a couple through here in the blue wioth them and like on the Viper in blue they are VERY sharp looking.

I am pretty anti-vette myself but, my brother has one and I went to carlise with him. I saw the the big bad ZR1 and hate to say it but it was pretty nice. I was there friday and they had the designers there talking about it. All they had to say was what a value it was for the money AND they named Ferrari, Lambo, and porsche, but, they avoided the viper ACR of course.
Bottom line I would never take it over the viper but it was very nice and will be some serious competition for the ACR! P.S. Anyone looking for a 09 vette go for the new gray as show in the picture on the first page it was beautiful in person! |

The car has performance up th was-u but absolutely no GAWK FACTOR at all.Best to wait a year or so (after the first 1000 idiots who have to have the thing first grossly overpay)

I think the stock Z in black is a much better looking car. The ZR1 engine bay looks like the top of a square candy bar. The interior is too complicatedand cluttered. The exterior changes do not go with the original design. The wheels are too complicated and do not go well with the car. I would not want it even if it was given to me. Put a black ACR with a single red stripe next to the ZR1 and it can easily be seen which design and engineering team had more integrity.

The ZR-1 is built on an assembly line like every other vette. There is only so much (feasability standpoint )they can do to differentiate it from the 30,000 or so other vetts they build per year. From what the mag guys tell me other than a roadracing senerio in hot weather it will do a number on our Vipers.Better power to weight ,aeros, gearing total braking system.

What will a modded ZR-1 do.Stock for stock. As far as modded a vette with the same power level as a Viper wins every time. Its much lighter much better aerodynamics ,better gearing ect.A Z06 with 100 hp less than my 08 is almost as fast quarter mile wise.

I think its weight more than anything (gearing too).Iknow the Z06 makes no where near the power of my 08 but they are so damn light in comparison.Alot of the technology in that car (alum frame dry sump )SRT should put in our cars -just way too expensive. The ZR-1 supposidly has carben fiber brakes. On Lambos ect thats over a 15 grand option.Assululated over the cost of 30000.00 vetts per year.
