I've had a few (450+) and all of Chrysler's musclecars from 67 up - except Hemis. I've had 3 convertables, 67 R/T, 68 GT &, 69 Sattelite Sebring - hated them all.
66 Sattelite ![]() 440 68 'cuda ![]() '71 GTX. 9s in quartermile Pro-street ![]() I've built over a dozen 440 A bodies (Dart, Barracuda, Duster, Demon) and here's the current one 73 440 Duster. 10s in quarter ![]() Back in the seventies and eighties we drove mostly Prostreet cars (race cars that were barely legal) until "engineering certificats" and safety inspections were too common, and expensive. This car went 10.4 on treaded Spring car tires in street trim. Low 9s on Nitrous. I built the entire car myself. ![]() I actually prefer the more modern Stealth R/T Twin Turbos with their AWD and AWSteering. Second to a Viper they beat the vettes of the same years, but being equipped with puny Turbos the Stealth TTs easily make 500hp with a Turbo change. They make excellent DD and the AWD makes them perfect for a winter car. I have White, Green and Black R/T TTs. Vipers are the Ultimate for Summer and highway miles. Notice the 440 Duster is for sale for $20K Cdn. Ted

Here's my most recent purchase, a Black 91 Stealth R/T TT with a few modifications (bought from JonB/partsrack.com).
![]() JonB's Stealth R/T TT I like your Dakota. I wanted one and shopped, but I guess the largest V8 is the 4.7 since 04 as they never installed the Hemi - so I decided to pass as I didn't think the little V8 was built strong enough for a supercharger. Your's would probably handle a supercharger and if you rebuild it that's something you might want to consider? You might also keep in mind that the engine I built for my 71 Demon cost $12,000 and right now you can buy an entire car for less than the price of an engine. Even old cars are devalued right now and it's a buyer's market. JonB sold me this Black 54,000mi Stealth TT for half price! Ted

Yep there's no telling what I'll do. Right now my plan is to get out of debt(which isnt much) and put together a good emergency fund along with fixing up worn stuff on my truck, to make sure it continues to be a reliable truck. THEN I have to decide on building up my truck, buying an old muscle car, or buying a Viper. I want to do "simple" stuff to my truck like, ram air intake, headers and dual exhaust. I always look to my brother's 70 SS Camaro for insperation. It had a 350 that ran about 400hp. Other than "racing" internals like pistons/cam etc, it just had headers and dual exhaust. |

I bought an Air Raid Cold Air Intake System for the wife's new 2008 Hemi Ram 1500. Testing with a Vericom drag computer (similar to a G tech) the CAI actually slowed the 08 Ram down more than 10hp compared to stock intake. Unbelievable noise was the result of my labors. Less hp and a lot of nagging from the wife about how I'd "wrecked her truck with all the noise". Costing $500 I was not impressed and since the company said, "If it doesn't make hp we won't sell it to you." I called to return it. "Nope," was the answer.
My son was begging for a CAI to put onto his 2005 RAM 1500. His truck being a few year older and a 4.7L I gave it to him for his birthday. I drove the 500miles and installed the CAI into his truck. Easy to do and it only took about 20 min to instal (including lengthening the temp sensor wires). Not only did he love the noise, but as soon as he stepped on the throttle he said it was a lot faster. Newer trucks have a much larger air filter and streamlined piping so CAI isn't an improvement - it's a downgrade. The 4.7L air intake has a simple plastic box bolted to the TB. Hole in the side where the airfilter dumps and the throttle body hole is merely stuck in another side. Smaller airfilter on the older pickups means that there is room for improvement with a Cone filter and using some 3.5" black plastic piping, a couple 45 elbows and clamps would net you the same hp as a $500 CAI but only cost about $100. Ted

I'm wanting a Viper style ram air hood lol, I know it'll improve performance and look great! I know a simple cone "CAI" intake is popular w/ dakota RTs but looks count too. Right now my intake is just a plastic box w/ a hose

I've built my own scoops many times. My 72 Charger needed a wide scoop because the car's body looked exceptionally wide and low. I built the scoop 3" high and something like 30" wide. It looked awesome. I used a heavy guage aluminium for form the scoop.
Here's some scoops I built for my Green Stealth TT. All newer cars have extreme high underhood temps, especially with Turbos so I custom designed these fiberglass scoops. They replace the stock 'bump' panels that came factory needed for electronic suspension shock control heights. These are fitted to the depressions of the hood and bolt in place of the stock plastic. Rear facing openings vent the hot air and have a tiny effect on downforce (although I'm not sure it can be measured, LOL). These scoops look better than stock and function well. ![]() The first effort to carve these scoops out of foam and then pour resin over the styroforms melted. second effort I covered the styrofaom with "Clingfree" plastic wrap and then firberglassed! That worked out OK. ![]() I have a 75 Dart Sport 360hp that came with a Dodge snorkel scoop that looks great and draws enough air to improve hp. Dodge invented Ram air scoops back in the early 60s. The Dodge engineers found that at least 30 square inches of opening was needed for any ram effect. Chrysler engineers also learned that about 1" over the hood is nearly "dead air space" and that's why they invented the SNORKEL scoop. It scoops air above the "boundary layer" and was called the boundary layer bleed off scoop. GM made rear opening hoods and cowl induction openings but those are only slight high pressure areas and although they can draw cold air they're not going to get any RAM effect. The are better used when you have to run a PAPER air filter and your climate has lots of rain. Any of the Chryler factory scoops look great and work the best of any ever designed. Ted
