Default ? about selling a car.

Hey guys, sorry if this is in the wrong forum or whatnot.

I've been trying since Memorial day to sell my 03 350z Supercharged and a ton more, for 17k. It blue books at 14.5, but has about 10k in upgrades.
I've got it on a few car forums, AutoTrader and fs locally. I'm aware the market is horrible right now, so just wondering if anyone has experience with this sort of thing and could offer me some insight or tips?

Its starting to get frustrating because I need to sell this in order to start saving for my Viper, and every day it doesn't sell puts me further from that goal. :-(

Thanks in advance, Craig.

The problem is that it is more feasible for a buyer to work withy a dealer who can finance the vehicle. In your case the Z probably appeals to a very young crowd where all their synergies are directed to becoming established (i.e home mortgage) free cash is hard to come by these days. I would suggest you work with someone who can finance the car put that link into your ad......

Art - that does make sense, do you have any experience with like a car broker? Is that what you mean as far as financing?

Snakebite - I'm aware that 10k in mods doesn't equal 10k when selling it, but are you saying that a supercharger, fuel system, EMS, coilovers, differential and more, isn't worth 2500 over bluebook?

All it takes is one buyer. I would suggest taking some REALLY good photos, spending maybe $ 50 and having its own website, and then flood the Z boards with it. The more exposure, the better. I would think you should be able to get a couple thousand more than what the average Z is selling for...but there lies the problem. What are the average Z's bringing? A lot of people are turned off by mods as well as they sometimes may want something unmolested.

Either way, good luck. This is a horrible time to sell a car but, again, all it takes is one buyer.

Is it the one with black wheels/hood/spoiler...?

Yeah its the silver/black one. It is the worst time to sell a car unfortunately, poor timing on my part I guess.

An average good condition z with this low miles (33k) are going for 14-16k mostly. I guess if the price is good I just haveto be a little more patient waiting for that one buyer looking for exactly this.

Thank you for your input.

Oh forgot to say I did clean it up nice and take some good pictures for the Autotrader ad, but its own site isn't a bad idea, thanks.

Give it a good wash and wax. Then, take pictures of EVERYTHING that makes it different than the average Z. Take pics of everything you can, door panels, dash, back zeats, trunk, tire tread, exhaust tips, under the car...etc...the more you can show the better. If you want to sell something at a premium price, you have to at least show them what they are getting. People today are lazy...you can't simply write it up...they can't want what they can't see.

not necessarily, because most people look for stock cars and are afraid of cars that are modded. people THINK that it shows that the car was raced and abused and such.

Do not agree entirely....my White Mamba had a deposit within one week of posting on Autotrader(Car was picked up this Sat)...the fact that it had a Paxton Supercharger was the the weight that tilted the scale over even 06 and other conventional models...agree that there is a perception that modded cars are abused -particularly if the owner's age group is in the "risk taking behavior" age.

I still say work with autotrader and they can put a link to facilitate a loan for a potential taker. The engine compartment should be impeccable (messy installs do not inspire confidence)....who did your mod work? in my case I high lighted the Paxton install was performed by DLM....self-installs worry people....take pics of the rear valances where most tracking damage ocurrs from kicking up debry......the price might have to be lower than prevailing prices in your case because of the mileage...... be patience and good luck.....

I (and others) hate stock cars. They're built for the 'masses' and other than Vipers if they're stock then "If you've seen one, you've seen them all."

Modifications make individual cars faster, prettier, handle and stop much better. Mods make the cars handle better. Even better tires make a huge difference. I own zero stock cars. There isn't a stock car on the planet that can come close to as fast as my Viper. Murcis and vettes should cringe when I drive my Stealth R/T TT past them as my Stealth is faster. My 'old' Viper and Stealth have TPMS, and Blue tooth technolgies. My Gen 2 has ACR brakes on it and Billet wheels. My Viper is much cooler and sounds better than any stock Viper.

My 440 duster gets 14mpg (us) and goes 10 seconds on Nitrous. Stock Dusters went 14. - 25 seconds. All my cars have much better tires and brake pads than what was made back in those days, etc. etc. Stereos and Bluetooth in my Viper and Stealth are both better than the factory "U-connect" system AND my Sirius is also better in both of them compared to my new 2008 Dodge Ram pickup. Sorry, but stock sucks.

To me, stock means that the owner doesn't have the knowledge to improve the car.

I have a few cars for sale. Resto-mods being normally difficult to sell. Valued at $32,000 and asking price being $23,000 all I get is, "Oh I wish I had the money." People are buying new cars an not collecting for now. New cars are mostly disposable and after warranty they usually cost more to fix than replace. Newer cars can also have problems that "can't be diagnosed." Ain't life interesting?
