Default My 1/4 mile timeslip

I recently purchased a 97 Viper GTS with 3" exhaust and gears, I'm not sure what gear is in that car but in 4th ( 1:1 ) It would run 42MPH at 2000 rpm as compared to my stock gear'd Viper which runs at 55MPH in 4th att he same RPM. I'm wondering how the gears effect the MPH at the dragstrip. The car ran as follows:

60' 2.057
330 5.520
1/8 8.236
MPH 91.60
1000 10.54
1/4 12.472
MPH 116.86

It was very hot out this day, very humid here in Orlando, Florida.. there was a new GT0 with 400HP running 13.6 @ 102 so I think all of the cars were a little down on power. I was on stock tires and launched very easy at about 1700rpm, I got some wheel hop off the line, also I dropped my tire pressure to 23psi.

Well, your 60s is about consistent for a Beginner with a Viper. Get that down into the 1.8x and you'll be closer to 12.

Depending on the track conditions, you did OK though.
'97 with the minimal mods you have is good for 12 or less on the right track, right day, good driving!

1.8 on factory tires? How do you suggest launching?

I've done a best of 1.72 on Pilots, JD beat me with a 1.69. Got to feather the throttle and slip the clutch just right

As far a the gears, in my roadrunner, I switched from 4.10 to 3.55. It is a torque motor and it allowed the car to "pull" through the motor torque, instead of blasting through the RPM.

Not as sure in a viper, but with the lighter weight and relavtive high TQ, you would be shifting pretty fast. In my mind, with stock tires, it would seem that getting a good 60' would be harder with the taller gear....but I am more knowlegable with older cars and learning the viper.

So you'd be turning 126 mph at redline....That would put you in the 3.55 range. Measure again at 3000rpms to be sure.
3.55s are great gears for cars with over 500 hp but less than 600. Stock Vipers do well staying with 3.07s and keeping it in 3rd through the lights (117mph rev limiter). On the strip, the extra gear probably won't help your et because of the extra shift. Drag radials may give you a 2/10s advantage over what you're currently doing.
your times are very close to what I run on stock pilots when its about 95 degrees outside.

I turned a 1.56 60' time with your tires in Bowling Green. With the Roe 5 lb pulley. Ran mid 11's
