Default Random tech. cats, silencers and muffler delete sound clip

Hi guys! I know there's been a lot of posts of people wanting to hear sound clips from different exhaust systems. I just finished installing Random Technology's 3-inch high flow cats, silencers and muffler delete cat back. It's a little late in the evening so I just recorded a quick start up, rev and idle clip. I can record more clips if anyone is interested in anything in particular. I would still like to make a recording of it driving away. As a side note, my 97 GTS is stock except for the smooth tubes and K&N. No headers, just the stock exhuast manifold.

I absolutely love the sound at idle. Very mean and very low, and just loud enough for people to notice. While driving, it's loudest at about 3k rpms. Might be a little too loud for some people, but it sounds great to me. I also find that if I want it to be quieter, I simply shift before hitting 3k. While cruising you can just hear a slight rumbling out back. It's very nice. Just enough to be heard, but not enough to detract from a conversation or a good song on the radio. At WOT it sounds mean, but doesn't actually get much louder than it normally is. I like that, as my Z06 used to be incredibly loud at WOT and attract all kinds of unwanted attention (not to mention going over the db limit at the autocrosses). And the best part, absolutely NO RASPINESS at all, ever! This is something I was worried about, but it's completely non existant. Overall, my Viper kind of sounds like a big bore exotic motor. I don't know how else to explain it. You can hear that there's more than 8 cylinders churning away, but you can also tell that it's huge displacement.

Anyhow, here's the link to the .wav file (turn on your sub!):

That low rpm rumble at idle does sound nice. I didn't know a Viper could make that sound - Hmmmm, I might have to reconsider my 'no mods' position after all.

That sounds nice. My 2001 ACR is stock, and the first thing I'm looking at doing is addressing potential heat issues with new cats, probably Random Tech. Who's X-pipe muffler delete are you using? I'm not a fan of HUGE polished tips and really like the look of yours, as well as the sound.

The X-pipe is Random Tech's too. I purchased the whole package for $1000 from PartsRack . Quality is top notch. I couldn't be happier. After a week of driving around in the Viper, I really am in love with the sound. I'm so proud to drive it around, knowing that it sounds good. This is somewhat unexpected for me as I thought I'd always be stuck with a UPS truck sound instead.

Here's a second sound clip, this time it's very casual on the gas pedal:

THANKS MUCH for the post! I'd like your permission to put the sound clips on our website.... and I'll even give you a parts-credit in exchange. This is very gratifying, since I designed this system from scratch with the help of engineers at Random, and a GA VCA member who loaned us a mule GTS in trade for Unit #1. We combined the best of flow, muffling goals, X-pipe, and tips. Only about 75 systems are out there to date, but virtually EVERY buyer has called or written a note, and mentioned Cruise-In kudos at VCA events. It DOES sound pleaseingly different from all other systems! THANKS AGAIN.

Absolutely! That would be awesome! Go for it. Grab the sound files and do whatever you want with em. If you'd like anything else, let me know (longer idle clip, driving away, etc.) I'm glad to be able to help out!

And I was just about to purchase another part or two, so any credit is welcome!

Jon,

This does sound good. Maybe this is what I am looking for. I have heard both sound clips but still wondering how it compares to the Corsa?
Is this 3” all the way back? What mufflers and Cats are being used?
Has anyone done some dyno runs to see what they have gained in power?
Is there the dreaded drone while cruising on the hi-way?

Thanks

Tim

Jon P. That is a beautifull system that you designed. This an a rear exhaust system that a lot of people have been waiting for. Again a beautifull job!

There are probably fewer than 75 of these installed...and many many buyers have dropped a note to compliment the sound. The X-pipe breaks up the drone of a straight-thru like Borla or belanger. There is more drone than STOCK but not much. There is more vdrone than CORSA, the only drone-free system.

I have a question for you guys, How do I record a sound clip with my computer or other type of equipment? what do I need to do it? I do not have a camcorder. I have the laptop computer and a cell phone that can record but the cell phone has lousy sound.
Thank you for any help,

Robbie

You'll need sofware and a decent microphone. MXL makes a great "desktop microphone kit" that'll plug straight into your microphone jack on your laptop (click for the link) . Costs about $100. That's what I used to make that recording.

You'll also need some kind of audio software to handle the recording of the sounds and also any cleanup work. Depending upon how serious you are, the software can be really cheap (can probably even find freeware software on download.com or something like that) or really expensive (Adobe Audition).
