If so, there sould be tell-tail signs of leak? If not, re-fill and see if you see anything?

same thing happened to me a few days ago..... walked into the garage a few hours after getting home and saw a small puddle of coolant on the floor....

took it over to DLM and we pressure tested the cap and cooling system, no leaks at all.....

hasn't done it since.....

Have you possibly bottomed out the front of your car recently?

There is a bolt on the bottom of the facia real close to the overflow bottle. It could have poked a hole there. To test, remove tube going from surge tank to overflow at the neck of the surge tank. Run a 50/50 mix of water and coolant or just water if you prefer down the tube and watch for leaks underneath facia. About a half a cup, not too much. I prefer the 50/50 mix just in case there is no leak, then your not stuck with just water in there.

If that's not it, then start with the easy stuff, check the lines from the surge tank to radiator just to make sure they didn't pop off at a connection somewhere, then look for bulging on those lines if they look secure. Then move on to inspecting the radiator hoses and heater hoses.

I would buy and install the Sean Roe radiator fan switch thing that turns on the rad fan so the engine doesn't heat soak.

Cheap fix attempt- replace radiator cap. Make sure the replacement is a spring center and not a drop center type. Aha, what does that mean? Make sure the silver flat thing in the middle of the rubber face is spring loaded against the rubber and not just hanging loose. There are both types that will fit.

If the pressure relief valve stuck open, then while driving around, the air flow through radiator kept coolant from boiling, but when you stopped, the heat in the block boiled it. The steam from inside the block will push all the liquid out of the container on the fender, overflow the overflow, and make a mess. Yes, of course it happened to me, that's why you should know it could be a $7 part and not a $2000 fix.

As for the fan idea, while it may cool the radiator, it won't cool the block much, and I dare say, not the coolant in the block at all. Once the circulation stops, the fan might not help much at all.

A couple of questions. Probably does not apply. Is the belt making noise? Could be water pump. Is there coolant on top of the block (under the intake manifold? Could be the cross over tubes where the thermostat bolts to the block. The bolts loosen up over time and the gasket starts to leak. If you catch it early enough, you can tighten it back down and the gasket will seat again. Tork specs are important. Good luck.

Tony..you are right, it s siple thermal dynamics of water, so it will flow naturally. The best test is feel the upper rad hose after it cycled.

Whatever you do, if you have any pets in the house make sure you clean up that coolant right away. I have heard that just a small amount of antifreeze can kill a small pet and they are attracted to the sweet smell.

Sean is right, it is a cheap exterminator. It is dangerous to humans as well. It causes the pet to have convultions and eats away the stomach and the pet will soon throw up blood and die.

The cure is alcohol. I know it works for people I assume it will work for animals too. Interesting side note, if you are already intoxicated the coolant will have no affect. Those that are daring can take bets and drink a glass of coolant after they have had some alcohol. The alcohol actually displaces the coolant from the receptors in your body and then it becomes cleared, and those who are intoxicated already have alcohol occupying the receptors so the coolant cant attach itself. I wouldn't recommend trying it, but the coolant does taste sweet.
