Default 0-100-0 progress

In the August 03 Road & Track they listed the following 0-100-0 mph times.

94 Viper R/T/10 17.2 sec.
96 Viper GTS 15.0 sec.
03 Viper SRT-10 13.9 sec.

These cars just keep getting better and better.

Wasn't the original Shellby Cobra a 12.0 0-100-0?

The Shelby 427SC did a high 12 - but the time was never backed up and no magazine test ever got close. Trouble was no two SC427's were the same. The one that posted that time was undoutedly a very hot version - probably closer to 600hp than 425.... an amazing time for its day - a huge leap forward from anything else... but not exactly what most customers cars could match.

Wasn't it Ken Miles that ran that time? I forget.

MT got a 12.1 0-100-0 from the SRT so I think the mythical Cobra number is now history..Aslo the GTS is a best of 13.9 in an old mag I had...........

I'd like to see what a stock '96 would do with my StopTechs. It would be in the 13's. The brakes are what really hurt the Viper vs. the pack in the '94 and '96 tests. The Porsche 911T won with a 13.5 and the Viper 2nd. Lambo Murcielago 3rd with 14.2

The Enzo did it in 11.7 but it was not compared with the above cars.

Note that Motor Trend calculates the 0-100-0 by adding the 0-100 time + 100-0 braking. It is not one consecutive test. The R&T is a consecutive test where the transition time comes into play. Also, how quickly the driver recognizes thatthey have achieved 100 and should stop is involved. I believe the Viper actually got to around 103 mph in their test (they show the numbers on the graphs). Those 2 factors add somewhere around .6 to 1 second to the time. Motor Trend also translates their numbers into standard conditions using fudge factors. A better approach would be to test in relatively consistent environments (if possible).

Yup...I read that too.

The drivers aren't allowed to anticipate the 100mph mark so they call it after they reach 100mph, no matter how fast that might come up or how little they may go past...

Still, I was disappointed with R&T's driving of the SRT-10 Viper. They took 9.2 seconds to get to 100MPH, as opposed to MTs 8.36 sec 0-100MPH time, and their braking was not as goo either.

Even figuring in the 0.7 sec transition time, the MT car would have run a 12.8 sec 0-100-0 time, compared with R&T's 13.9 time.
