Default Fluid condition on low mileage cars

For anyone contemplating whether to change fluids on a low mileage older car, the answer is YES. I am now a believer. I only had 2k miles on my 98 and the tranny and diff fluids were dirty nasty. Now I don't know how long it takes to turn this color (might be only 10 miles) but I never would have thought that it would have been that dirty. I guess just as oil gets dirty as it pulls contaminants, moisture, etc out and suspends it, the same is true for the other lubricants. Also I put in a drain in the diff to facilitate easy draining next time.

The brake fluid is something to worry about! Change, at the most, every two years no matter what mileage you have.

Low mileage, older car owners don't typically think of this but it absorbs moisture and causes havoc to your calipers.
