this is a monster of a thread, no way i'm gonna read it all!! Has anybody took their car to a track and saw if there were any significant gains with and without the vipair? I would like to buy one if it does something, but if it doesnt i dont want to waste any money.
If somebody wants to send me one i'll test it at the track and post my results ![]() |

I am sure all cars will be different as the dyno will also. Temperatures can cause a big varience as well, but those numbers seem unusually low. My GTS has the smooth tubes and air filter and pulled 424rwhp...?

After reading several pages of this thread I have just one question ... WHAT KIND OF CRAZY-PEOPLE FORUM HAVE I JOINED HERE?
Actually I am a member of the Harley Forum (Gun totin' hard talking 1 percenters), the AC Cobra Forum, (Seat of the Pants rocketing into eternity dudes with no safety features at all), Corvette Forum, (What will our cars be worth $$$ post GM?), and now you guys! You definitely have taken the prize for sheer fun-seeking rib-poking fellowship among a very small and exclusive group of owners. If this thread shows anything it is that Viper peole are FAMILY! ![]() |

Amazing that someone just paid $91 on ebay for one when you can buy them brand new on ebay for $59, as that's what and where I paid for mine.

That being said, we have two cars with VECs on them. One with a Vipair, one without. Idling in hot temps, the Vipair car is consistently anywhere from 10-20 degrees cooler on the VEC log. To me, this would sort of indicate that a closed hood dyno run could produce slightly better results due to the temp difference. I'll never know if it's true cause it's just not at all important to me, but theorectically it would seem the cooler air car should produce more power. Steve |

This has been a piss poor summer so far up here. Something like 17 degrees below normal hi temps for June I think I heard somewhere. We had one good week of hot and that was it so far. It was borderline turn the furnace on the last couple nights. The VEC logs under power showed similar temp differentials. Steve |

Not necessarily. The car's for sale, so I've taken all of that off. I can't really attest to it working or not for sure, though for about a week the car was running like a banshee.. until I decided to put the NACA duct back in. As soon as I did, the very next drive, it had somehow lost the added power I'd gained somewhere along the line as I fooled with inlet air and mods under the sills. Removing the NACA duct again did not bring that awesome power back. There was no doubt about it, even with almost new drag radials on the car, it'd spin the DRs in places where previously it wasnt spinning the OE tires. It felt like a Roe blower car must feel, just an enormous power gain. Chuck Tator ventured that it might have been timing, but I don't why it'd change back to "normal" just from putting the NACA duct back in - other than the duct backflowing air I suppose. As soon as I took it out of the garage and headed off in 1st gear I could tell the added power was gone. I don't think I was going fast enough to have air backflowing out the NACA duct. I also had a modded airbox on the inlet side with 4" hoses added , so it's hard to know just what each individual mod was contributing. ![]() Overall, for the average car I tend to think there are more gains to be had on the exhaust side-which automatically helps the inlet side anyway. ![]() |

that picture makes no sense to me ??
are those dryer hoses pulling in air before the filters? so your NACA duct was causing a loss in power? if you were running 4" hoses, what size TBs were you running?

On the one hand it'd seem hard to blame all the power loss on the NACA duct because the car didn't respond immediately to my blocking off the duct opening with the flat cover. But I do know for certain the extra power was lost as soon as I put the NACA duct back in. TBs are stock size. |
