Default Viper rear calipers are NOT Eagle Premier / Dodge Monaco

Unfortunately, while photos and board advice pointed to the 1990-1992 Dodge Monaco and 1988-1992 Eagle Premier rear caliper was the same as a non-ABS Viper, I just ordered a pair and they are not the same.

They are exactly the same style, but (1) there is no boss to locate the Viper brake hose bracket and (2) the killer is that the reach from piston to the fixed fingers is about 0.25" less (Eagle uses thinner rotor?) than the Viper part. Otherwise, exactly the same.

Anyone wanting to try the 38mm or 40mm upgrade will have to find a spare pair of calipers first. Sorry for the poor lead, but since nobody complained to me, I guess no one ever tried it.

I had heard that they were from a Renault.

Hi Tom,
The Overhaul kits for the 88-92 Premier/Monaco fit the Non ABS Rear Viper Calipers, since DC does not offer a Overhaul Kit.

I've used the kits and they work, but I've never ordered the whole Caliper. Thanks for the Info. I guess you have to return some Calipers?

Chuck, I've ordered many kits (AutoSpecialities KC-83017) and they do work. For anyone wanting to rebuild their calipers, send me a note, I'll send instructions and with the $6 bag of rubber parts, you can rebuild your calipers.

The Premier/Monaco caliper looks like the same casting, except the bridge over the pads must have been lengthened for Viper use. If anyone really gets stuck and needs some internal parts, I suppose the $100 Premier unloaded caliper plus a rebuild is a reasonable alternative to the $300+ cost I've heard of a Viper caliper.
