So much for "pretty sure". I stand corrected. I have only replaced my rear rotors and you are right, they come off without caliper removal if you remove the pads. The only time I have removed my front rotors was to do the Stoptech upgrade. There goes my plan for separate track rotors/pads which I could easily switch out...

The reason I ask is that I have Brembo monoblock brakes on the front of my car, and they are fantastic on the track. However, for driving around town, they squeel for the last 20 feet or so of every stop -- VERY LOUD SQUEEL. It's embarassing, quite frankly. I only track the car occasionally once every month or every other month, so I was thinking of putting on some stock brakes up front or maybe even some stop tech's, and then swapping out the fronts on the occasion I go to the track.
Or, I could trade/sell my Brembo's for another front set of brakes that works well for track and street. These Brembo's are all track. What do you guys suggest? Manny |

Warren, you are absolutely right on the money. Even if you get the new rotors properly installed, if you screw up the brake bleeding process and leave air in the lines, you can have a catastrophic brake failure the first time you hit the brake pedal and it goes clear to the floor. I hereby join you in expressing my complete disclaimer in suggesting that a novice even consider doing this himself without supervision from an experienced assistant.

Manny,
Sounds like you have a nice brake set-up for the track. However, for just driving around town, them pads probably aren't getting up to their proper operating temps, hence the loud squealing. What pads were installed? I think a set of softer "street" pads for the street only may help. There's a big difference in material compound between a track pad and a street pad. Frank, Thanks in expressing the safety concerns. I know many of us are mechanically inclined, do-it-yourselfers, and are fine with working on our own cars. Just don't want to take it for granted that anyone can do. |

My local Viper Shop and Brembo themselves told me there is no street pad for this brake set up. I believe I have the same exact set up as Paolo has on his fronts, only he loves the squeel (I think.) I can't handle it any more and often don't take the car about because of it.
I'm ready to sell these and get something not as aggressive, yet better than stock. |
