My wife bought me a copy of Road & Track magaziness best sports cars on the planet issue and it had corvette and virtually every other sports cars on the planet but not one viper! Just wondering why the hell they would have a corvette as one of the best and not even mention the viper? Just wondering if you guys knew something i didn`t about road and track are the bias to the viper????

no one likes the Viper because it doesn't ride as smooth or have as many nifty little gadgets like the vette or the porsche. they place as much importance on creature comforts as they do performance. personally, if i wanted all that extra crap, i'd have bought a mercedes. i'm happy with my unadulterated power.

I'm running out of rags to UNsubscribe to. I just re-read Automobiles' Viper vs Z06 article again to remind myself why I canceled them. Now R&T is on the list.

Is this the same issue that states on the cover that the C6 equals the performance of the Viper? Should be a big clue right there that they don't have a clue.

Without reading the article I can't tell, but are any of the other cars that they mentioned, low production?
How many Vipers are built every year? A couple of thousand? Perhaps they don't want to talk about a car that only a relatively few people can buy. Another possibility is that DC wouldn't pay what it costs to be in the article. |

Bias is the point I made in an old thread that caught a lot of attention. Of course, BWright (who doesn't own a Viper) argued incessantly that there was no bias. There is HUGE bias. They hate to admit that the Viper wipes up all their elite european cars. A Corvette is harmless to their other protected vehicles, but a Viper...... Seriously, would you rather a Lotus Elise (not a bad car) or a Viper? (I'm trying to be serious here folks)....it's obvious that Road & Track is the most bias of all of them.

I've been reading R&T on and off for 40 years. I remember when they didn't consider the Corvette a real sports car.

R&T still does okay by me for the most part.
I'm down to just 4 subs now - o Autoweek (duh) o R&T (still the best photos in the biz and Egan is God) o Top Gear (Clarkson may be brash but he tells it how it is) o Sports Car International (mostly lame but not *too* bad) MT, C&D, Automobile can all rot. I wouldn't use their drivel them to start the fireplace. |

It all comes down to which car company is paying for ad space in the magazine. Right now Dodge is not spending the money for Viper ads, so the cudos go to those who do.

I'll second that notion that the review's bias is driven by the writer/editor's personal preferences coupled with advertiser's dollars.
The facts are shown in the numbers, but how the writers judge the cars, and slant the articles (or not even mention or feature certain cars) relates to business politics and profits. Notice how you never read about how rough-riding a Porsche GT2, or Murcielago is on rough roads, but it's always mentioned in Viper reviews, even though the cars all have similar performance and ride. Or the fact that the Murcielago get 9MPG in the city and 13MPG on the highway! And you will almost NEVER see the auto magazines compare high performance cars by price, unless it's only European cars against one another (with the Viper and Corvette excluded). -Dean. |
