Anybody have pics of their setup? And even better, a write up on how? I swear that my girlfriend acts like she is going to DIE everytime I ask her to help me take it on and off. I've tried to take it on and off by myself but the top is just too big and bulky for me to handle safely. I garage hoist/pulley system would work great!

Here is a simple system that I have used for the last 4 years. I can easily remove the top by myself. I use it to store it for most of the Summer.

Thanks! That's similar to what I had in mind. Was that easy to do?

Very easy! I cut in half some isolation tube used for hot water pipe. I glued it (no screw!) to a piece of 1X1, added an eyelet on each side to hold the rope. I then used two double pulleys to create a hoist that makes it easy to lift the roof with one hand. I then drilled a hole in my cement ceiling and attached it.
To lift the top, I pass the ropes through the car windows and attach the ends with a D-ring. Good luck!! -------------------- Michel I love the way she takes her top off My Viper Page |

Actually I bought a Miata hoist from one of my SCCA friends when he sold his Miata. Works great! I don't have any pictures but it's a very simple design. I think I paid $50 for it.

Shucks! Oh well.. Seems simple enough. I think I'll design and tackle one myself.
Thanks for the info! |

Here is what I have done. Each corner is counter weighted that is on glides for smooth operation behind the wood. The weights are from a old weight set.
