Factory wheels are clear coated from the factory. You should be able to fix the rash yourself, use the search function on this web site to find the details. It's a lot of work!

The challenge will be the clear coat. Professional refinishers limit their work to just the rim and spin the wheel to have a clean cut line where they have stripped the clear coat. Then they just buff and polish the rims. Stripping the clear coat off the whole tire is not a job that most would want to do themselves.

I would thinkl that, given the cost to have it repaired, it would probably not be worth the bother of doing it yourself. I had one fixed a while back and it cost something like $150.

This is the place I was thinking about. $129 flat fee

http://fixrim.com/wheel.htm

Also, check out this one. (I don't know their prices)

http://www.calchrome.com/wheels_dodge.html

I was thinking of doing it myself after other mods.

Let me know if it helps.

I had the same thing once. I took my dremmel with a grinding wheel and ground down the burrs, then put on the felt wheel and buffed it smooth, then waxed the sh*t out of it. From two feet away, you can not tell they were touched. That was 3 years ago and they still look good. At 80 mph, they look like any other wheel, and the whole thing took all of ten minutes.

Know what? You'll go out and spend over $100 to get it done perfect, and on the way home you'll stop to pick up something at the deli, check out some chick walking around with nothing on in the hot summer sun, and you'll meet the curb once again.

Agree with Andrew... these things are designed to get curb rash. I've never seen a wheel that had such a large bead sticking out beyond the tire...

I am actually having mine done as we speak. The gentlemen is outside doing all four. He finished two and they look great so far. The only problem, like everyone is saying, is the clear coat. Be careful with that. The guy here is stripping ALL the clear coat off each wheel and then reapplying the clear coat.

You found someone to come to your house? Does have to take the rim off the car?
Doesn't he have to ADD material to the wheel? How much per rim?

LI Viper:

I had a gentlemen come right to the house. They are based in lower NJ near the shore. They take each rim off and bring it into their little trailer they have behind the pickup truck. It is pretty neat and they are really good. All the necessary items are in the trailer. The cost is usually around $125 per rim to do ANYTHING but the dealership screwed mine up so bad that they charged them $150 each.

I touched mine up with a thin brush and some Walmart mag paint. I sprayed a little in the cap and applied it with the brush. Its a perfect match, and the gouges are hardly perceptible. I did it as soon as I got home after the ride and felt better right away.
Curbs were designed for higher profile tires. That and the Viper's initial unpredictability when gunned'll do that.

Wow. I got a lot of responses. I should get a commission from the shop. I think 5 people are getting theirs done.
