I was wondering if anyone knows if they make a wiring harness for a Gen II to replace the factory radio. I don't want to have to splice into the car's harness if I can avoid it.
Also, do they make a harness to join the amp's inputs to the outputs (so you can bypass the amp altogether)? I know it is standard on most vehicles, but I'm having trouble finding one for a Viper. Thanks! Frank |

Contact Alpine stereos, they should have the info you need as it is an Alpine unit.

Any stereo installation place (Car Toys, Crutchfield, you know the one around the corner from you (so to speak).....)will have a plug to plug into the Viper connectors with bare wires, which you splice to the bare wires from the new radio head you buy. Very simple I did it, and still used the line outs (RCA plugs)to the stock amps in the trunk. I put in the Panasonic CQ-C1300U which plays MP3, regular CD's, and WMA CD's.
Now, having said that, chances are all (I say cautiously)after market heads will have the same colored wires coming out of their connector. You only need 4 wires as follows: BLACK - ground; YELLOW - Battery +12V: RED - Accessory (+12V with ignition switch on); DARK BLUE/WHITE STRIPE - to relay to power amps in the trunk. No speaker connections necessary since the line outs go to the amps which send to the speakers. You will appreciate vastly improved sound, regardless of which aftermarket deck you put in. Good luck, Later, |

Don,
Thanks for the info. I've done several car stereo installs, so it won't be a problem. That "shop around the corner from me" couldn't find a harness for a Viper, so I was wondering if he was screwed up or if they didn't make one. I will do some more looking online. I appreciate the help. Frank |

I think you are going to have a difficult time finding a plug and play interface connector. I recently put in an after-market system. The high end receivers are a bit deeper than the oem unit, the problem that the splicing creates is the added bulk which is hard to fit behind the increased depth receiver. You also have to splice the pre-amp outs. When and if you start splicing make sure the splices are compact and do not take up much volume. If you can find an interface connectos it will save a lot of grief.
