Default Reconditioning work

I'm considering changing my RT-10 for a GTS. I know of a fairly cheap '97 GTS but it has about 65k miles on it. Given that the car is currently stock, what would it take to recondition such an engine for insurance against anything breaking? And would it be cost effective to fit uprated parts while doing this? Cheers.

An engine "breaking" with only 65k on the odometer? You have lots to learn if that is your thinking.

These motors are pretty tough. If it ain't broke then ......
If you are really concerned, run a compression check. If it doesn't smoke when started cold, then probably won't have to do anything.
Rebuilding these motors is not cost effective, at least not for factory parts. (around $240 a piston) and $900 for a gasket set.
Many people drive there cars to 100k miles just changing oil.

I can't undersatnd people who take the time to post just to suggest you asked a stupid question Must be the long winter in Wisconsin. SAD and all that... Maybe I'm asking because I'd like to learn? Hmmmm? I should have mentioned in the original post that I'd plan on some carrying out some significant modifications to add some horsepower (50-100) that might make a higher mileage engine more prone to breaking.
