Default Head porting and polishing

Good morning Viper fans,

I learned Friday after speaking with the Viper Tech that maintained my 97 GTS for the previous owner that at 3000 miles in '02 he ported and polished the heads and port matched the intake to the heads. He is going to send me all of the paperwork on all of the things that have done to my car. What a great guy. He works at Luke Dodge in Phoenix and his name is Eddy. Can anybody tell me if by porting and polishing the heads I would gain any HP? How much does that cost at a Dodge dealership? He also put on '98 exhaust manifolds as he said they were better than the 97's. Why is that?

I've had the car a week now and I've racked up about 200 miles. Most of it from giving rides. It is a big thing here in Klamath Falls Oregon as it is the only Viper in town....at least the only one that is not a garage queen!!!!

Thanks

Mark

Greg Good and JM cylinder heads are your premier Viper head specialists. They can answer most of your relevant questions.

Good luck!

Generally speaking a port job should give you @ 10% increase in air flow at peak valve lift. If your heads had bigger valves installed you may gain more.

Rob Lauthan is right in your neighborhood. Knows his way around Viper heads and has a flow bench all set up for V10 heads.

Depends if the porter knew what he was doing, otherwise it's slower. If a Viper tech did it...who knows?

actually you are the 2nd viper in K-falls, there is a 94 red viper owned by Tom, he owns a auto glass shop Tom's Auto glass, off of Washburn way across from Warmart right before the overpass
