If your talking about the header evac system, I think after the o2 would be best if possible. I have that system, just haven't done it yet.

Definitely after.

Is it a drag car? An oem style pump may be the way to go for steet use. Aftermarket pumps aren't ideal for the street (i.e. Moroso) since they need oil to survive, daily driving doesn't feed enough oil to them. I'd just be a bit concerned if you blow undesirable smoke (burning oil in the exhaust) out your tail pipes with an exhaust evac setup. Is there a catch can in the setup?

I had a Moroso on this 572 c.i. motor, but it wasn't driven much on the street..

I believe you are talking a "vacuum pump" ..... I believe he is talking a basic valve cover direct to header evac system. I do agree on not using a racing vacuum pump on a street car though....especially without monitoring the vacuum in the crankcase so as to spot a failure.

Just the basic valve cover to header

I got it, I just babbled too much..

Typically the exhaust evac system is not ideal for a car with mufflers. These setups also tend to suck a mist of oil into your exhaust system, making a bit of smoke out of your exhaust at high rpm. If you don't mind, that's cool.

That's the only reason I mentioned an oem style vacuum pump setup as an alternative solution. They don't pull much vacuum, but siphoning of the exhaust with your setup doesn't either.

Racing pumps have relief valves to adjust the max vacuum, otherwise too much will pull oil from the wrist pins = not good. If your driving your car on the street then forget I mentioned racing pumps because of the oiling issues.

Any type of vacuum system will get you a bit of power by relieving some air pressure on the back side of the pistons as they plunge down into the crankcase. Guys usually run some type of vacuum setup because of low tension piston rings or issues with blow-by and leaking at the crank seals.

Too much babbling again.. sorry, but definitely weld in the nipple fitting after the O2 sensor because of any oily mist entering the exhaust.

Old Post, but I stumbled across an old Favorite URL that I wanted to share regarding this topic.. it's a good Q&A write-up on pumps & vacuum.

So the Mr Gasket system is basically just a hose connected to the headers from the valve covers?

That's it. It's only good for strip cars with no mufflers, an inexpensive alternative rather than using a pump.

For the street, maybe some like the excessive plumbing appearance, make the engine look like it's on life support, a cosmetic racing appearance is all it will be, some like it I guess.. I try to avoid personal opinions / tastes, I just wanted to share info before some decide to drill holes in their headers and valve covers if their intention was purely for performance.

Nice red GTS, 11.55, you're having fun.

While I've read and posted that pan evacs are only good on open headered cars, I did recently talk to a local guy using a pan evac system on a street/drag car that sees something like 6in vacuum at idle pulling through the angled pan evac tube that's welded onto his collector.

His car has a full exhaust system..!
