This will be my first VOI and the first time I have had a chance to put my car on the track.
I was wondering if the worst was to happen on the track at VOI if my Allstate policy should cover me? Are any of you carrying special insurance for the race track? If so what do I need to do to get it. |

From what I have read no they will not cover you. If in doubt call them.
We loved Viper Days but I can't afford to write off the car is it gets wrecked (don't race if you can't replace) so it doesn't look like we'll be doing anymore racing B |

Isn't there VCA coverage for sponsored events as part of your membership? Wouldn't apply to Viper Days, though.

You can buy coverage for events like this, but as you can imagine. The premium is ENORMOUS. Probably in the area of 10% of the cars ENTIRE value (i.e., $50,000 car = $7,500 annual premium).. I'm an Insurance broker, and have seen this coverage before. But like I said, its ridiculously expensive... I guess if you race, you have to use the "If you break it, you bought it" mentalilty. The bright side? I dont race, but would venture a guess that most "incidents" are somewhat minor (i.e., shredded wheels, dented side sills, front facia, etc.) which you can preety easily find "used" replacement parts for... |

State Farm covered me for the tune of $22k from a track mishap. I think if you've been with Allstate for a while and they understand you were not racing, you would be covered.

The VCA insurance covers YOU & Your Guests who sign the release, but your car is NOT covered. BUT since this is a NON TIMED event, your policy should cover your Viper on the track. I know my policy has covered me in the recent past with no problems.

Let the Skip Barber instructor drive it while you ride in it. I saw one wreck one at the VOI in St Louis. Believe I heard Dodge picked up that tab for the owner.

We had a dirt track car.
Someone asked me what we did for insurance. I told him that we had another car. |

That, and a combination of court costs, bad press,etc.,etc. That, they are not interested in.. $22,000 is not a big claim... If this was a $250k+ claim, probably would have went a different way.. If push came to shove and they took you to court. They probably would have been found in favor of denial, for that claim... But anyway, Im glad to hear that you got taken care of... |

My policy is active for any event that is not competitively timed and is not classified as a race or rally. Viperdays is billed as a school and not "officially" timed so any mishap there is covered. Someone here sent me a link for the new cannonball run - its considered a timed ralley and therefore I am not insured during the event even though its on public roads.
The irony - if I wreck my car in a street race and there are no witnesses to testify against me, then I am fully covered... |

Wow - what a pile of bad advice.
READ your policy if you are going to put your car on a racetrack, PERIOD EXAMPLE - Geico will not cover a car participating in an event at any facility that is otherwise used for racing. So even if the event is NOT timed - if the event is at a racetrack - the car is not covered. VCR does NOT insure your car A few years ago Insurance companies were not hip to the concept of 'open tracking' or 'high speed driving schools' - today they are - a read your policy |
