I had the opportunity to come across a B&B 3" Exhaust, B&B 3" cats and Borla 1 5/8" stepped headers. I'm happy with the dyno results from the system but the exhaust sounds horrible. At idle, there's a nice deep rumble and at WOT the car sounds like an Indy race car ("tinny/metallic" note). In between, it sounds like a ricer car as if a bazooka muffler were installed.
I've heard B&B exhausts from other Viper owners cars and none of them sounded this horrible. I know sound is subjective so my definition of horrible is that it sounds like someone trying to pass gas through the exhaust system. The only difference is that the exhausts I've heard either had Random Tech or Roe Racing cats. Nobody seems to be using the B&B cats, that I've met anyway. I'll try to post sound clips this week. I know headers contribute to the sound quality but before I start down that path I want to rule out the B&B exhaust and Cats first. I've read the arguments between stainless steel vs. aluminized pipes, "tinny and metallic" sound vs. lower deeper rumble, etc. I don't think the S.S. B&B exhaust itself is my issue. I have a few questions: (1.) How much of a role do high flow cats play with the exhaust note? I know high flow cats increases volume. I'm not concerned with the volume. (2.) Does anyone use B&B cats? What's your experience been with these cats? (3.) Placement of cats. Is there a more restrictive/less restrictive position for cats? Does the position of the cats affect sound quality? Do I have the correct placement of the cats in my system (see pic below)? To me, it seems they should be as close to the location of the original cats, closer to the collector turnout. This is an older pic. I since cut off the "flange" on the collector turnout. I have a temporary strap clamp that connects the 8" S.S. pipe between the turnout pipe and cat. - Tony |

I've never heard B&B cats either.
I used to have the Metal Substrate Random Tech cats on my car with the B&B setup (headers and exhaust). When I removed the cats, the car got louder, but the tone/pitch didn't seem to change too much. I do have the cats for sale for $200 if anyone is interested. |

Basically put the RT's in right where the stock cats were. Corsa 3" was cat back of choice.
