Default Any ideas to restore color to shift knob?

The shifter knob on my 2000 RT/10 black w/ cognac is discolored because I actually drive my car.
Before I bought the vehicle I swore I would only buy a black interior colored car, but I fell in love with the black/cognac look. mean looking, but very classy.
the interior has held up well for 28,000 miles, still looks brand new, but the shift knob is turning dark.
I have been using meguirs gold class leather cleaner and it works great and smells even better. It cleaned up the steering wheel so it looks new again but the shift knob is bugging the crap out of me. its amazing how that one issue makes such a big difference in the appearance of the interior.
anyone know of a way to restore it?
I really want to keep the interior color matched.
thanks.

this is a common problem with the cognac shift knob, ive seen this same question on other forums before if i were you, i would try to locate a new shift knob, once years of dirt and such get on that shift knob it probably will never fully be restored, so if I were you i would try to find a new one, id think someone would have one?

sorry i couldn't be more helpful

It did not take overnight for the dirt to build up on the shift knob, so try leaving the cleaner/conditioner on the knob for a couple of hours before wiping clean....give that a try and see if that helps. another option to try is use a little "Goof Off" but have conditioner cleaner/conditioner ready to apply right after cleaning it. I have used goof off on a leather sofa before and it worked with tough stains (paint). do not get goof off on any plastic !! or it will melt it immediately

thats a good idea, goof off is the universal solvent, just don't get it on plastic

I don't think its dirty, I think it might be that the actual dye is coming off,if that is possible.

Get a black one, no rubbing off of the color. Maybe talk to Chuck Tator or JonB to get a new one for the "cruise-ins"

id get rid of the shifter knob all together. they look ugly and the feel of a new one (billet or partially) is great. and makes for a firmer shift too.

look into MGW

He has a RT/10 and lives in Florida. If he gets a billet it better come with a welder's glove.
