Default Re: Need Battery

After a quick search, I see that many guys are NOT going with the famed Optima, but rather a die hard or similar good brand. How about the Cranking amps ??? Dimensions that fit in the spot ? I'll just go out and get the most powerful battery that will fit in the spot, but I'd rather not have to yank mine out to take measurements. I figure I will pick up the battery, make sure it is fully charged and then install. Can anyone save me the trouble of size - dimensions ?

Thanks,

AC

I have the Optima yellow top deep cycle in my car and you need a shoe horn to get it in and out but it fits.
No battery problems at all.
I hope I didn't just jinxs myself.

Check with ACR Steve, I remember he recommended getting a sealed battery so the acid doesn't splash and corrode the battery tray area (especially the way you drive around those turns ) but I don't recall the brand. I think it was Interstate. I have a NAPA but its not sealed and made a mess.

Optima sucks. I'd rather power my Viper with a 9V and a 3v battery ducttaped together...and it'd be more dependable to crank up everytime that way! I went through 4 Optima Redtops in 1.5 yrs. Garbage.

Most auto batteries are made by just three manufacturers, Delphi, Exide, and Johnson Controls Industries. Each makes batteries sold under several different brand names. Delphi makes ACDelco and some EverStart (Wal-Mart) models. Exide makes Champion, Exide, Napa, and some EverStart batteries. Johnson Controls makes Diehard (Sears), Duralast (AutoZone), Interstate, Kirkland (Costco), Motorcraft (Ford), and some EverStarts.

So, save yourself some $$$, and go to Walmart and get their Everstart maintenance free group 78 battery that fits. It is a very good battery.

The red top does suck by why didn't you step up to the yellow top after the 2nd red top failed ?

I was going to go with the Walmart Bat. I've always had luck with them. I was concerned with how well they are sealed, as I never used one in the Viper with track - turning and all that.

It was still under warranty and the battery place would only exchange for the same type battery. When the last one failed, they were out of rep tops so they "had" to give me another type battery. It was a "Werker" battery. So far, no probs at all including a time when I went almost a month and never touched the car (no battery tender, etc)

When I took my new job here in Michigan in May, my Viper sat in Jersey for 5 weeks with not a soul touching it.....I arrived to drive it to Michigan and it started on the first turn.....glad I bought a Die-Hard this February! Just my 2 cents.

Regards,
Aaron
