I've read every post I can find on the subject. I am renovating my garage that is 100 years old.
For now, I have decided to use an epoxy solution for the cement floor and use garage matts on top of it for working on the cars. The garage surface is 600 square feet. Question - I want a commercial grade epoxy solution to seal the floor ( I can put tiles VCT later....that is next year). I read in past posts that many are not happy with the Home Depot Behr product as it chips easily. I wanted to buy UCoatIt products but they do not have a dealer in Canada. (shipping/customs will be expensive). Just looking for options: What other commercial epoxy products are available? Has anyone used Behr products and like it? Is UCoatIt a good product? Thanks for all your help |

I considered epoxy but went with tiles instead:

If you lay VCT you will need to use Henrys thin spread, here is what you can lay on.... Concrete, existing asphalt “cutback” adhesive residue, underlayments, wood substrates, terrazzo, clean and abraded steel, stainless steel, aluminum, lead, copper, brass, and bronze, and existing resilient on all grade levels as recommended by the flooring manufacturer. .....but....read the instructions below. DIRECTIONS: Refer to tile manufacturer’s specific recommendations. Condition the area to be installed, adhesive and flooring at 65°F (18°C) or above for 48 hours before, during and 48 hours after installation. Floor must be sound, smooth, dry, clean and free of excessive moisture or alkali. Remove dirt, wax, loose paint and all other foreign matter that would interfere with a good bond such as curing agents and sealers.

After 27 years in the chemical industry, I have never seen a floor coating not fail. Yes, we are talking chemicals and fork truck activity in many cases, but not all. And every coating we've ever put down has failed. Way more expensive stuff than Home Depot or Lowe's sells.
The only floor that survives is the troweled in type like Stonhard. Expensive, but you get what you pay for. Part of the reason why I love my bare concrete at home... |

If you're interested I can put you in touch with my friend. He's a fountain of knowledge on coatings and the chemistry behind them.

FloorJunkies - tiles for garage floors - Have this stuff in my trailer and it is holding up well. Least expensive tiles around $80 for 40 SQFT. Should cost you ~$1200.

Yes. Great product but it is $4.00 + sq ft here in Canada. I don't have $2400 budgeted for the floor.
I am replacing the roof, walls, siding, insulation, etc. at the same time so I am limited on what I can spend on each section for this year. This summer I just need to get it functional and not leak water!! |
