Default RT/10 Trunk Detailing - What belongs in the Trunk?

I was looking in my trunk of my 98 RT/10 last night, and thought that it looked quite unfinished. There was no cover (fibreboard) that runs across the top of the spare tire as with many cars. Since I only recently picked up this car with not too many miles on it (5k), trying to figure out if the trunk has what it is supposed to.

Can anyone describe or, better yet, provide some pictures as reference?

Thanks much.

Peter

I just bought my 2002, and I'm thinking the same thing. no carpet, just a floor.

There is a cheap carpeted cover that goes over the spare and jack in a GTS. Suppose it might be the same in an RT/10.

Snake Oyl has some good trunk mats, and well as the Northern Cal bunch of VCA.

Baz, did the trunk carpet come from the factory or is that a SnakeOyl carpet? Looks fabulous!

The trunks come very bare and boring. Any upholstry shop can make you a carpet and bind the edges. Cost is not that much either if you go that route.

Also, a little paint can clean it up some as the factory grey / black is boring.

Thanks very much....nice carpet/mat. Wonder if it pays to make a fibreboard piece first and then put the mat over it?

I would think that to only be necessary if you plan on putting anything in the trunk that weighs much. Those mats are usually really thick, but there in the center of the spare tire it will probably let the mat sink in with something heavy on it. Like Chad, when he has more Hooter's girls than fit up front. They like the firm surface when riding in the trunk.

That's great and thanks for the pictures.

So, what exactly is that board called - fibreboard or there is another name for that type of material. Also, where did you/do you find that - hardware store, Home Depot, lumber yard?

Then, based on what I see, you glued some type of felt material to the board once you made sure it fit correctly.

Nicely done!

Thanks for sharing.

One quick additional question....how did you do the pattern, with brown paper and then used it to outline the board?

Thanks

Peter, you can try this trunk carpet from JC Whitney to line the board. Just use some 3M spray adhesive. In fact, you probably line your entire trunk with this roll if you wanted to. UNIVERSAL TRUNK CARPETING - JCWhitney Car Parts

That would be great! Meanwhile, is there a specific name for the board you are using? I am pretty sure I vaguely remember a name for it, smooth on one side, rough on the other.

Much appreciated!!!
