Default New owner of 93 RT10 - dash question

Hi, I rescenlty bought a 93 RT/10 , its in very nice shape (has 18K miles) the only issue is the dash has a bunch of marks on it, now from what I have read on this forum and others, thats not an uncommon issue. I am looking at a coupel of options to fix it, one bieng paint, the other are these overlays you can get, has anyone had experience with them? any pros/cons...good suppliers?

cheers,
Nick

If you want to go with a stock look, Jon B at PartsRack had them for about $500 last year. They may have gone up in price since then, but that's what they were last year.

On a 1993, a 1996 black dash will fit if you don't like the gray. Also, if you order a dash, make sure you get the glovebox too; those are separate.

The stock dash is referred to as "fuzzy" because of the finish Chrysler used on it. I think I've heard oven cleaner (someone please correct me if I'm wrong) will get the fuzziness off.

I personally liked black better, so I wet-sanded and primed mine, then handed it off to a guy with a booth and gun to respray. Then I just used some vinyl spray from Pep Boys for the remainder of the parts. I like the look of a matte dash better, but there are some other options in this thread: Painted Dash pictures

Here is mine (before I rewrapped the seats):

I've had no experience with overlays.

I hope that helps...welcome to the club!

Niel, thanks..I'm actually a transplanted Brit (scouser) as I now live in New York. I actually came form the "other side" as I sold my '06 GTO so I coud buy the RT.
The only thing wrong is the dash, I do custom paint as a business so painting it would be no big deal, but I like the idea of maybe a Carbon Fiber looking unit...

IF you go with the carbon fiber application. Be very careful (as I am sure you are) becuase if done wrong...it looks pretty bad. I have seen some where it looks like all they did was take a sticker and put it on the dash. Just my 2 cents though...I painted mine black as well and really like the look...quite a few of us have done that here in Central Texas and it is sharp.

Looking at it closely today, I think satin black is the direction I will go. How hard is it to remove the dash pieces? or can it be painted in place?

The dash comes apart surprisingly easy, and it can be driven with the dash out (the gauges stay in place). You just have to know where the screws are, and where the clips are. It's a little intimidating pulling it off the first time because you don't know if it's going to give or if it's going to break, but once you've learned where everything is it's a snap (terrible pun).

I was fortunate enough to have a local guy (thanks, Phil!) show me where the clips were. You may want to round up a posse of local guys or consult your tech manual before yanking on it too hard. Good luck!

I had the same issue with my dash. I removed the dash just take your time. I then sprayed with easy off oven cleaner then sprayed off with water. I did this three times to removed all the old paint then repainted satin black three to four light coats. Looks great.
