I really wasn't going to do a full blown comparison of my old brake parts to the new brake parts in regards to weight but some have expressed interest in what some of the parts weighed. I may or may not have the individual parts listed you want, but it's the best I can do.
MY OLD BRAKES Factory stock 2001 with about 32K miles. No weights are corrected to represent un-worn parts like all the new stuff is. MY NEW BRAKES SRT calipers with EBC Reds 14" Euroteck front rotors all corners Big Brakes mounting kit Big Brakes e-brake kit Big Brakes SS hose kit all corners Big Brakes spare tire adapter WEIGHT OF ROTORS -> OE rear (pr) 29.8 lbs. -> OE front (pr) 43.4 lbs. -> Euroteck (ea) 17.8 lbs. Net change is minus 2 pounds. WEIGHT OF BIG BRAKES PARTS Everything was already bolted on the car when this weight program got started so I had to reverse engineer the weight as a bulk lot of parts. It's accurate enough for this exercise. 24.9 pounds of Big Brakes stuff includes: -> Caliper brackets -> E-brake kit -> Hoses -> All hardware Subtract from that this stuff that was removed from the car: -> The old rear caliper mounting lugs that were sawed off the rear hubs (both sides) 16.3 oz. -> OE nuts and bolts etc. 46.5 oz. -> OE rear caliper brackets (pr) 75.6 oz. Net change is add 16.25 pounds. WEIGHT OF CALIPERS -> OE rear with pads/hose but not bracket (included in list above) (ea) 7.8 lbs. -> OE front with pads/pins/hose (ea) 9 lbs ea. -> SRT with pads/pins but not hose (included in list above) (ea) 10.4 lbs. Net change is add 8 pounds. SUMMARY Add the red and the green numbers together and it is 22.25 pounds added to car. Realistically though that number is a little high because... -> My old OE parts are worn rotors and pads. New will weigh more for sure. -> When I reverse engineered the Big Brakes stuff I used the FedEx tracking declared package weights (they round up) and then subtracted 2 pounds for packaging. So my 24.9 pounds for all of that may be a few pounds high. Bottom line is somewhere around 15 to 20 pounds added to car. OTHER STUFF I bought the Big Brakes spare tire adapter and it weighs 3.5 pounds.

Thanks for taking the time to add all this up.
Just curious how the ride feels? Between the wheels, tires and brakes you have increased your unsprung weight. Notice any differences in ride quality? |

The ride is actually much smoother now. Everything I've read about the Pilot Sport versus the PS2 would suggest that. Less groove tracking, less vibration etc. I am not however impressed that the PS2's have that much more grip than my Pilot Sports. Taking off from some slight inclines still gave me some occasional tire spin at 70 degrees ambient with my now equivalent gear ratio of 2.92.
And anyone that says my Pilot Sports were old and hard for whatever reason they would want to do that, I'll make a fool of you just for trying. Because if I'm good enough to predict someone would say that, I'm damn sure good enough to smear it in your face.

No. They were about 2-1/2 years old. I think I got the last set Michelin made.

That's probably why you aren't noticing any traction difference. When I changed mine this past spring, I was replacing the original Pilot Sports. The difference in acceleration was astounding. The care had a completely different feel under full throttle acceleration.
