Start saving all your pocket money now! The Viper was the only car of my dreams from 1992. I saved every penny and it saw me a Viper owner at 24, it can be done.

I hope you're able to achieve your dream! They are not cheap cars, though, so I hope you're saving up all your spare change!

Jon B,

I get irritated sometimes with the time I waste just reading some of these posts. jjennings was a truly classic case of this. I never though about the time and effort exerted by folks like you that reply to all this nonsense.

As we look to the upcoming re-org I would really like to see every area except one off limits unless you have a Viper VIN. One area for those who might actually buy one is enough. And I would encourage true Gurus like your self to stay out of there and let us common folk deal with them.

Any comments moderators?

Yamashek,

You have good taste in cars, however, you might want to think this through a little further. Unless you are already filthy rich or have wealthy parents, you should consider getting some other things in place first such as an education, a career and place to call your own. Then worry about fancy toys. That's what I did and instead of a new Mustang Cobra when I was 22 I got a new Viper GTS when I was 28. Not trying to burst you bubble, just some food for thought.

Although a "members only" section would be less inviting it would benefit the already existing club members. I personally have been a national VCA member since 97. I pay my dues annually and also receive my OWN Viper magazine AS WELL as my own VOI invitations. Although I do not own one myself, I consider it to be the last piece of my puzzle ( a big one at that). I have followed this car since 1991. (when I could really grasp what it was, I was more into Mopar Action than motor trend when I was 9)
I must say I'm fairly keen when it comes to the Viper and how it came to be. How many other 18 year olds have read GUTS and refer to it for things such as school and to have a better understanding of how business can be better. Now I'm not playing the "poor kid" game cause it is annoying but sometimes it's just honest kids who want to know more and don't know any better. Perhaps they aren't lucky enough to have owners in their area whom are willing to grant them rides in the car they loath to drive. I strive for my own personal ownership for only 100% personal satisfaction and nothing else. This includes volunteering which includes myself and the car. I love it when me and my dad take it to car shows and kids admire it as would you the chance to be allowed in Chrysler headquarters with unlimited access for a day. As you grow up your goals and admiration for posessions change as you aquire both experience and consumer goods, just because you have attained something doesn't mean it's not a big deal for someone whom isn't quite as fortunate as you. I wish everyone could be as understanding as our Viper friend Liz is (I hope you get another Viper real soon cause you might also get kicked out and scolded as well as I know the temptation to drive one is unbearable. My dad is out of town with the car in the Garage and keys in the closet. **** SNOW!) I would suggest that people who feel they are doing favours by spending time here and replying ( you aren't paid are you) in their spare time only reply to posts outside their "own special section" if an email is directly sent to them. YOU ARE NOT OBLIGATED TO READ AND RESPOND TO POSTS. I understand that knowledgible people post here for our information and I can't be thankful enough for it but perhaps they should maybe be a little bit more carefull when they respond to questionable posts (where is that post counter Tony??? This would help!) by posters that have few posts under their belt. Also these people are generally easy to spot. They have goofy email addresses usually belonging on hotmail servers. You choos what you watch on TV, how is this any different. I sincerely apologize for the long, ranting post but ignoring people who are labelled "time and space wasters" can be quite an easy task.

Sorry and I won't post again until I get permission from the Queen.

Thanks for the approval Tony.

I can kinda get carried away when I get sarcastic though.

Great work on the site though.

We all sincerely thank you.

K.S.

You're message is exactly WHY WE (That's right, not just JonB) want to limit entrance into the site. We are very proud of the resource we have developed with the VCA's PRIVATE site. We have had questionable visitors in the past that have just used up valuable bandwidth with questions and replies that dilute the value of this site.

Yes, I agree, it's great to have sites where young and old can converse freely about any and all subjects...but this is the OFFICIAL SITE OF THE VIPER CLUB OF AMERICA...and we try to make it a priviledge, rather than a "given right" to be part of it.

We have, and will continue to, experiment with access to the site, but you must understand that we do NOT want to be a "cars.com", or "hotcars.com" type site...we just want to be a quick, educated, communication device for fellow Viper owners, and yes, if at all possible to filter out the nonsense...even Viper enthusiasts.

...and by the way, Jon B is, unquestionably, one of the greatest resources for Viper related knowledge our Viper Nation has...and he definitely does NOT try to maintain a politically correct position...heck, I've even deleted a few of his "politically incorrect" posts.

KS,

I haven't always agreed with everything JonB has said, and I don't mind disagreeing with anyone on this board - IN A CIVILIZED MANNER.

You say that you are a relative newbie here, yet you go on to criticize JonB's attitude and the ideas he put forth in his post.

You SERIOUSLY need to spend a bit of time on this board before you come out swinging, especially at someone like Jon who I have personally seen help DOZENS of people with problems ranging from the trivial to the serious.

You don't even own a Viper - not to sound harsh but for non Viper owners who are also non VCA members, this site should be considered a priviledge. If you don't like what you read, don't visit! It's meant as a resource for Viper owners and especially for PAID VCA MEMBERS!

Perhaps I shouldn't comment on this hot and seemingly scathing topic, but I cannot resist. I am 15, and in a couple of months I will be 16. As many of you know, (like Liz ) I am a walking dictionary of Viper knowledge. I have followed these cars for about 6 years now, and love them more than anything. (And I mean that.) I have not seen any of the posts made by Danny or the other guy, but I can say this: I try to limit myself to posting about things that (A), I know about and can give a helpful comment to or (B), something that is an intriguing topic, like this one. This is the important part: I read and observe MUCH more than I post. I have learned important things about driving in the "hammer" lane, and various tips and tricks that will make my driving experience much more enjoyable. I realize that this board is an enormous information source for current and potential owners of the Viper line, and I don't want to fill it with worthless "drivel." I hope this helps the non-Viper owners or young people like myself realize that we should, for the majority of the time, be seen more than heard on the board. I hope that it continues to be open to all Viper enthusiasts, and that it never falls fate to VIN # password control. Oh, and BTW, I respect JonB and his knowledge and I hope I never, ever, ever offend him.

Danny Boy, seven posts this topic alone! Please back off. If you review them they are just meaningless ramblings. I vow to avoid this topic regardless of additional posts.

I think all the "young'uns" need to take a lesson from Clint Sever. Clint is a great participant on this board, always ready to chime in with information or educated opinion - an asset to the Viper community.

Yamashek and Danny, I don't think anyone has anything against you guys, but please realize that most of us are quite busy, and we generally come here to discuss our cars, and get answers to problems or learn more. We have an "off topic" section for meaningless banter.

I read the Corvette board a bit, and there are a lot of "me too" posts and the like. I don't think we want this site to become like that.

In addition, this site is meant to be a resource for people who are members of the Viperclub of America. As a non-Viper owner, you are still entitled to become an "Associate member" (or whatever your regional club may call it). This site is (as far as I know) owned by the VCA (Viperclub of America), of which I and most of the people on this board are members. There are other sites which are appropriate for Viper discussion that is just chat and banter - this one is probably not appropriate unless it's in the "off topic" section.

The Viper community is quite close knit, and when you ask questions that - to you are just innocent question - people may be doing some legwork to get you the answers (as JonB did), and when these people find out their work was for nothing, they tend to feel frustrated.

I'm happy to have anyone and everyone on this board, but please try to be respectful of what this board is about, and respectful of the members here. I'll say again, I personally think Clint Sever is an asset to this board. He's a "young" guy, but that doesn't matter. People aren't upset with you because you're young, we just need to bear in mind what this board's intention is.
