Default Acid etch/chromate primer

Does anypne have much experience using Acid etch and chromate primer. I have heard you can get them separate or as a single combination primer. I have some ruffed up aluminum I need to paint blue like my car.

ALSO Does anyone sell the Sapphire color in spray cans? I know I can get some for my Magnetic red vette.

THANKS!!!

Yes, I have used it on aluminium and it means your top coat stays on just the way you want it to. Mine was just called "Acid" and went on just like an ordinary grey aerosol primer. Always use it on bare alloy.

Thanks Joe (I changed my user name). Did you have to rough up the aluminum?

I used it to spray my PartsRack wing. For prep I just cleaned the aluminum thoroughly.

Keep in mind though that it is not a filler. If you have fine scratches and want a polished finish you'll need to shoot over the etch with a filler.

# 34 is a track car, so I wasn't overly concerned about finish. If I remember correctly I shot the red directly over the etch. It's good enough for the track. For a better finish any primer filler should do, but if you don't get the info here ask the autobody supply store and they'll point you in the right direction.

Good luck.

btw I used DuPont. Thats the wing in my avatar.
