I decided last night to go and check up on my favorite four legged friend. After I left the stable I saw some of my car buddies hanging out. Naturally, I stopped for a while to chat. Upon my departure, I did my usual "Burnout"...ok...ok...I can admit...extremely childish and immature...but you can't beat the FUN factor
I then continued at appropriate, acceptable speed after leaving the light. About 1/2 mile on my way, a "friendly" Police Officer pulls up next to me. My window about half down, and when I saw him in my sideview mirror, it was then all the way down in a hurry (illegal tint in NY So, I glance over to offer him a friendly smile, only to see his "unfriendly" finger gesturing me to pull over![]() So, of course, I oblige. I watch him walking toward me in my mirror, and knew this was going to be a problem. (I know you know exactly what I mean...he just had "that look" hehehe!!). So he ask for license, registration blab, blab, blab. As I am getting it from my wallet (with all those little "pin" badges I have from every cop I know clearly in his view) I ask him "Officer, what was it that I did?" He said, "Unsafe start". I looked at him with I guess, a silly grin on my face, and I said "You are kidding?? right?". He said, "Nope". Is a burnout classified as an unsafe start?? That was a first, I have never heard of such a thing, have you? I know you are going to ask if I got a ticket, the answer is NO!!! I tried my best to turn up the "charm" and, the "puppy dog eyes" look never hurts, and I guess it worked UNSAFE START!!! OMG!!!Laura ![]() ![]() |

Years ago I was pulled over for a burnout and they classified it as "exhibition of speed". I didn't get a ticket either but it wasn't due to any "puppy dog eyes" I assure you. While the officer was talking to me, a car drove by and threw an empty beer can which hit him in the back! Off he went! If whoever threw that beer can is reading this ... thanks!

The Taliban will give you a ticket for whatever they want. Just the price we pay for living in our free society.

You're lucky.
Exhibition of speed/Exhibition of acceleration can cause you serious problems. It can also be classified as other things (drag racing, etc, if someone else is there). In California, it's enough for them to take your car! |

You should write a letter of complaint.... Try this:
http://www-csag.ucsd.edu/individual/pakin/complaint it's an auto complaint generator that is very funny. |

Yup, I have definitely heard of it and I paid the full price for it too! It was stupid but... Anyway I did the same thing, got pulled over in by police in a golf cart, yeah a golf cart. The two stepped out and blocked me in adn told me to get out of the car. My reply, "uh sir." "Get out of the car now!" I got searched, handcuffed, trip to jail, and a ticket for wreckless driving. My friend who I had for some reason taught to drive the car earlier that day drove my car back to get me out of jail. He had never driven a stick before in his life till I taught him in my Viper. Anyway yeah it could have been alot worse Viperess. Be glad

I would have preferred he called it an "Exhibition of Speed", then an Unsafe Start. Just sounds soooooooo much better, especially if I had left with a ticket, I certainly would have preferred that written on it
![]() I bet you could do "puppy dog eyes" if you tried hehehe ![]() |

I've met some dumb cops, I've met some smart ones. I've met some good ones, and I've met some bad ones.
In COMPLETE honesty though, I've yet to met a cop without an infeority complex. It's a total power trip, and society makes them immune to the exact same thing that they abuse with other people. I seriously doubt people WANT to be cops. If you are interested in the legal profession, you become a lawyer. If you can't hack college, you become a cop. If you can't become a cop you're (among other things) a security guard. The personality patterns of those jobs are just too easily identified. Being a cop is just an excuse to be an ***hole whenever you want and "help" out your friends. No objectivity. Hold them accountable, make investigating murder, finding rapists, busting up drug rings and gangs and finding stolen property a higher priority than writing a g*d da*n parking ticket or a ****ing MIP and I'll gain a small (VERY SMALL) shred of respect for them. And, in response to your question, no, Viperess shouldn't be happy about it. She should be happy when they don't pull her over in the first place. |

I received an 'Exhibition of speed' ticking in CA a long time ago for the same thing and it was pretty severe. They said it carried the same basic penalty as drunk driving (at the time). Lost my license, had to go to traffic school, got a fine and a huge increase on my insurance. I'm with the group that says "count your blessings" it could have been much worse.

Back in college in Wisconsin I did a big burnout and got pulled over for "Rapid Acceleration". I was very distressed to find out that there was actually a law against my main goal in driving.
![]() When he came back to the car he informed me that my license had been suspended for too many parking tickets. My car had been broken down in a "faculty only" lot for 2 weeks. They came by every day and gave me a new $50 ticket... So the cops looks at me and says, "Christ, I was just going to give you a warning. Now I can't even do that. Get the hell out of here, slowly!”. I never pulled away from the curb so slow in my life... ![]() |
