I picked up a "previously viewed" copy of Test Drive on PS2 from block buster for the bank-busting sum of 14$ (note: This was what the kid gave me because "vipers F#$* rule" hehe).
My review: This game is somewhere in between project gotham racing for Xbox, and the old Need For Speed: Hot Presuit game. It's definetly and arcade style game... GT3 zelots need look elsewhere. Graphicly, the cars are decent, but very "cartoonish" in nature, but it flows well with the arcade style game that it is. The cars each handle differently, but far from realistic. Backgrounds of the cities are nice, but kinda plain BUT! The saving grace of the game is it's mindless speed. Crank up 150 mph through a city, dodging traffic and avoiding cops. Oh yeah.. the cops hate you.. and will get you with stop-sticks (spikes) and try to ram you. They go from crown vics to Cobra R mustangs, to Jaguar XJ220's. Think your gonna run at 200mph from a jaguar cop? Nope ![]() There are no realistic physics in the game. Smack a bus at 100mph and watch it fly up 200ft, and you keep on going. But, this can make for some truely hallarious sceens. Couple this with 200ft airborn jumps.. WOOHOO!!! The cars are a good range. You got everything from a Hemi 'Cuda, to the GTS-R Concept, souped up chvelles and wicked supercars. There is also drag racing, which is more like street racing in a strait line. Overall, not a bad game.. a fun departure from the seriousness of GT3 and the zero fun factor of PGR. I'd give it a 7 out of 10. Oh... and you can do MASSIVE burnouts, fishtaling everywhere... great fun! hehe If you rent it... put this code in: Right, Right, Left, Square, Up, L2 L2, R1 at the "Main Menu" screen. This unlocks all cars, and tracks. Try BEING THE COP race... pull over the good guys in a cop-issue TVR ![]() MadMaxx |
