Default Kart racing...

So last night I had a meet with members from another board I frequent and we went to F1 Boston. F1 Boston is an indoor/outdoor kart racing joint, and let me tell you it was a blast!

Who ever knew that a top speed of 40mph was that much fun! The course we ran on was all inside with 2 changes in elevation. Only had real trouble with nailing this one downhill SHARP right hand turn, but so did everyone else

Was involved in one accident where someone spun right in front of me while I was riding their rear bumper. Had no place to go, so I nailed him right in the side.

If you have never tried these little karts, do yourself a favor and spend the $50 to run a couple of races.

Oh, and the first race I placed 9th, second race I placed 3rd

They ARE fun. (And relatively un-dangerous.) With a slick track, maintaining the line and traction is critical. Also, if you lose momentum, there isn't much acceleration to these karts, so your lap times suffer.

In some U-turn type corners, it's better to slide through a 180 turn (like some off-road rally cars) than to try and maintain traction.

What a blast. Thinking about it makes me want to do it again.

I went last week to the Willow Springs Kart track with Paul Mumford and Tenney. I was unbelievable, you haven't lived until you've seen these two pros go at it. 40 mph , try 80mph.

I did the 2 story track at the kart place in North Indianapolis.

I think it was off Keystone (?), off 96th street (?), behind the Wood-something Bowling Alley.

The track was RUBBER!

The grip of the tires was very high.

You wore a helmet and a neck ring which was not very comfortable.

While I went nuts with a day's school of shifter karts, this enclosed track with walls all around was "claustrophobic" for me and I didn't really enjoy it. It was not totally unlike racing in a tunnel.
