I just drove 150 miles this evening from Minneapolis to Duluth Minnesota. For those of you not really familiar with that drive, it's basically a wooded bug factory from start to finish. I swear they all sit along side the road and wait for my cars headlights, and don't let up 'til I can just barely see out the windshield anymore. There must be a product out there that makes this removal job easy, and safe for the finish. What do you use ???

When mine is bug infested, I just wet the area down with water. Place a wet towel over the area and let it soak for 3-4 minutes and it loosens those bugs right up whitout any harmful effects from to much scrubbing.

I use a spray can of Bug and Tar remover. Works great and has not hurt my finish. I don't know the brand name off hand.

There is a product manufactured by Stoner called Xenit. It is a citrus oil product that will remove ANYTHING with one wipe. Be sure to use very little and do not use any force. I know you can find the product in some auto parts stores, and in most of the auto mag's they run adds. Let me know if you can't find it and I will bring in the phone number?

WD-40 works the best and will not ruin your paint. That is what Sal Zano recommended I do and it works fantastic.

The WD-40, do you put it on before or after the trip?
Also, there is an organic bug remover that is available from a number of sources. RV places carry Bug Away (I think) and H-D sells something too. The organics instantly cut the bugs. Bug and Tar Remover is paint thinner (mineral spirits) and takes way more effort. Actually, an ordinary high pressure car wash is probably the easiest. Get it soaped up and keep it wet for a few minutes, then give it the final spray off. Does the Saran wrap stick enough and not blow off? |
