Default Highway 2

Did the Glendale to Wrightwood, lunch, Wrightwood to Glendale cruise.

This is a great road. It is one of the few roads I know of where full concentration and both hands on the wheel are required to go the speed limit.

A beautiful day.

Chased a motorcycle; was chased by a motorcycle.

There are two under-mountain tunnels. Slowed down on entry, then ran through the gears at WOT. What a great sound. (Turned around and did it again.)

15.65 mpg round trip - not bad. (2nd and 3rd in the mountains, 5th and 6th getting to and coming from the 2. 230 miles, round trip.)

If you live in So CA and haven't done this road, you owe it to yourself.

I saw the MPG post and I need to make a correction to my 15.65 mpg round trip figure posted here.

I realized this morning that I had taken the round trip mileage but topped off at the bottom of the highway. That means my mileage for the 14.7 gallons I put in at the end of the day was 230 minus the 60 that got me to the base of the mountain.

Bottom line: Mileage was 11.6 mpg, which seems much more reasonable considering the kind of driving I was doing.

I live minutes from that road, I have been driving it since I got my license. Have almost every curve locked in memory, honed my skills with my 300zx and have had the viper on those twisties for over 3 years now. I take a nice drive through those canyons every week or two. I know some shorter courses for those weeknights that I dont have enough time to make it all the way to wrightwood.

Craig lemme know next time you are in the area. I am at the 2 and 210 junction.

Unfortunately for me, I don't get to do that road these days nearly as much as I would like to.

In my single days, I used to run a motorcycle on Sundays with a group of guys, one of whom bought a home right where you apparently live so he could do the road every day. Man, was that guy fast. He used to smoke all the torn duct tape knee dragging racer guys on his Ducati (with his girlfriend on the back!).

I hope to get up there once more this year before it starts getting too cold.

As a PS, we stopped at Newcomb's Ranch. One of the Ducati guys said my car was the first Viper he'd ever seen that he liked.

I rarely go there during the weekends. Too much traffic especially families and motorcycles. I usually go on the long runs on weekday mornings/afternoons and the shorter (30-45mins)runs on weeknights. I go into the canyon in La Canada and come out in Tujunga. Chances are the Ducatti guys hasn't seen me or maybe he just doesn't like yellow
