You should have a party. You could invite your pants down to meet your ankles!

Nice Dane.
I have considered adopting a gray one myself (In Europe some people tend to 'remove' them from the nest -> wrong color). Very cruel.
I had a Dane while I was a college student. Wonderful animal. They don't live long though

Now I've got an Argentinian Mastiff. 9 years old and going strong. She is a real ***** though. Can't take her anywhere. Always looking for trouble. At 120 lbs., that's an issue...

Is that water in the photo from her drool?

Yeah, I've heard that they put down this color of Dane that I have. Something about their genes. If they have puppies or mate, they offspring will have a very good chance of being Albino, deaf or blind..

Too bad about their lifespan... Incredible dogs though. I've owned many diff breeds and the Dane , IMO, is all around winner.

Gerald,

Don't be too concerned about your dog.
The reason why they put them down is because the color is 'not acceptable' according to the breeding standard.
Most probably these kind of dogs also give more chance of passing on the wrong color to their offspring.
I have not heard of any other issues though. I would be surprised.

The one thing to be concerned about with Danes is the quality of their hips. Do you know anything about the parents ?

Here's my other dog. American Bulldog. Straight from Mississipi. Not the sharpest tool in the box, but tons of fun

It is sad that breeders put down the dogs because of a color. With all the people out there that love these dogs they could find them a home. I have an all black Great Dane. I thought he was dumb, then I realized he was playing me. He is 3 years old and still acts like a puppy. Ours came from an abused home. He was skin and bones and pissing all over himself if you raised your voice at all. After a year now he owns the house and “conveniently” ignores me. He filled out and weighs a ton now. The only problem is he keeps licking his feet and knees to the point where they bleed. We tried everything the pet stores have to offer. He refuses to stop licking. We have another dog and give him plenty of bones ect… I don’t know what to do and it kills me to see him lick to where he bleeds.

Any suggestions?

Joker,

Log onto www.danesonline.com or another great dane forum. Ask away, I'm sure there is something that can be done?
