Very well said Laura and I agree with you. How much more do they want to cool this place down? I am spending less and less time here. I used to see all new posts when I would come in the morning. Now it is the same ones as when I left the day before. I am having less and less of a reason to even log in.
Perhaps that is what the hiddens want, I really don't know. But it is apparent to me that the board is less appealing in the last two weeks. It was the variety of personalities that was interesting to see go back and forth and hearing the different views (even Bonkers). I haven't seen a post from him in ages. Even The Mash added to the mix with his supportive views that were not the most popular. Like a popular hangout at a college, you have a vast variety of people that make the "whole" scene more interesting. Occasionally you might have a scuffle but nothing serious. The past two weeks is like the police moving in and declaring a curfew and restrictions and 86’n certain people. There are a few that would still come around but eventually the masses will find another hangout. They have already started doing it. I think the few that made the decisions that came to be in the past two weeks only hurt this board. They can celebrate their victory but how many are coming to their party? Will the few admit their failure or do they still see a hollow victory with nothing gained only lost. Perhaps there eventually will be no need for an Off Topic and the Off Topic will be carried out on another Viper site. The values being enforced presently remind me of a Southern Baptist type mentality very blah and grey and definitely no fun. I can say this because I was brought up First Southern Baptist and I know quite a bit about being oppressed and having your individual expression oppressed. There is nothing loving and warm about that denomination, rather very cold and rigid. Oh wait I just described the current status of this board. |

If Michael is right - and I suspect time may prove him right - that this site becomes strictly an informational site, how many hits / visits is that going to generate?
Surely those who advertise here - and whose $$$'s must go a long way to keeping the place running - will have to begin asking where is the best place to spend their advertising money... As one who has followed the goings on at this and previous incarnations of the VCA BBS, all I can ask is please lighten up a little before it all goes away... |

Indeed, some of the banned burned enough bridges that I doubt they would be allowed back. A shame, too; because everyone went a bit overboard.

Thanks Michael, Let me make something clear, this is not a post for the banned. Although I have mentioned them as of late in many of my posts, that is for my own interest, because I miss them, and the "flavor and fun" they added to the site. They certainly don't need me to speak on their behalf. I too have heard that many say they would not be interested in coming back. That the bitter taste in their mouths right now, from all that has transpired is too great, or may take quite some time to dissipate. That saddens me, and is really a shame, to think that a discussion board on the internet(which in reality is such a small, and insignificant thing in the "big picture" of life) has created so many hurt, and angry feelings among the members ![]() There does come a time in any conflict, where there is a "point of no return", when too much has been said, or done; and the anger, and hurt is too deep. Sometimes we all need to take a deep breath, look at the situation and put it all in proper perspective. I for one after the events of 9/11 have realized even more so what is truly important in life, and don't take myself so "seriously". |

I'm glad this intelligent thread has been un-disappeared.
I hope this signifies a return to the old VCA, where self restraint and no censorship were the rule of the day. |

Notice that Chuck quoted me replying to Steve. Only you can't find my post replying to Steve anywhere. It basically said his "Utopian dream" was gone. The landscape is in ruins. It will never be the same. Let's see if this one gets *poofed* too. |

We are still missing about 6 or 7 threads. Another 1 from Laura 2 from myself 1 from Matt (that started the whole magic wand episode) and a few more. AND I'M STILL WAITTING FOR AN ANSWER TO MY E-MAIL TO THE MODERATORS. LUC. |

Re-appearance? hmmmm? Quite honestly I'll tell you something, had I not received a very informative letter from one of the moderators prior to seeing this thread back up, I think I would be just as angry; if not even more so, at the reappearance of this thread as I was at it's very disappearance.
However, it's my understanding that one of the new mods got a little "wand waving happy". I do appreciate the efforts that were apparently made by so many to enable this to reappear, and I hope that this is a small step in the right direction. However, I have been told that it seems as though some of the responses have been edited or deleted fom the thread. I don't know because I was at work after I posted the initial topic and didn't see much of what was written until now, maybe there was something in those replies that didn't meet the "rules"? That, I don't know or have the answer for? I do like to always try and see the glass as "half full" I have mentioned it before, and maybe it warrants mentioning again, the moderators often have a difficult job, and many times find themselves in a "no win" situation. I would like to think that their efforts, and volunteering are truly appreciated by most. Perhaps before "waving that wand so quickly", a little extra thought can be given, and personal feelings, opinions and values set aside.Positive changes can be made only if suggestions, and constructive criticism are permitted to be voiced, and that there is a desire by those able to do so, to act upon them. Change can happen only if, change is what is truly wanted. Complaining, being over critical, and being angry is not usually the best way to make things happen, however, providing positive suggestions, and offering ways that they can be accomplished, and offering to assist are steps in the right direction. I hope it is realized that many of the actions of the administrators/moderators of the site, as of late, are truly hurting the comraderie of the site, and the organization as a whole. When a member takes valuable time out of their day, gives thought in what it is they want to try and convey, spends the time to sit and type it, it should be respected. |

Bruce

I dunno if it's forbidden to say the other site name, but we call it ".com" because it's the same except for the .com at the end. Of course the demeanor and fun factor is totally different but the name's the same. |

Originally I thought the paranoia .org had with .com was childish. But considering the significant exodus to .com I stand corrected.

As many others have said this site has lost so much in the last few weeks, it seemed that one moment there was some valuable debate on what the rules should be, and the next moment there were mass bannings and no activity on the board.
I like many others have not been spending as much time on the site, so I did not read Laura's comments until this morning. Very well said indeed. I think that when one reflects on what has transpired since VOI that it is very clear that the reaction to those that were banned as well as the quality of the "moderation" (READ CENSORSHIP) has clearly been overdone, the staggering fact seems to be that most view that it was overdone prior to VOI, and it has only gotten worse since. While I read that the move to the new software is what we are waiting on, clearly the actions of the moderators have no bearing on this. This was a great site, it clearly still can be but a lot of momentum has already been lost, swift action demonstrating a clear change is needed FAST! |

COM without the spaces, now 700 active members, all set free from the viperclub.morgue site, like a good jail break. This site is going down faster than the titantic. VCA.org approach: "READY........SHOOT.......AIM ! Gee, my foot hurts........but it never happend" |

over 40,000 members, funny folks in the OT section... Some fanatical, but otherwise ok... Lot's of us own vipers, too. Moderation is checked and balanced - all we ask for is clean language.... It's a FUN place. Good day ![]() |
