Below is a cop's response to a post on a local board from a guy venting over an uncalled for ticket. I personally know the cop that wrote this response so this is NOT bogus...
"Well let's remember this is the city of Clearwater where they have a second dollar fund that is a bonus towards their retirement. They are the only agency I have ever heard of doing this, but for every ticket the city collects on the 2nd dollar goes into a fund for the officers. The fund is set up so that when an officer retires he gets a portion of the money collected during his years of working there. I think this is a conflict of interest, but then again I would not complain about an extra 150k at the end of my career for just doing my job." |

A further reason that traffic violations should not result in fines, but merely suspensions, similar to allegedly worse crimes like rape and murder.

What do they mean "second dollar"? Does the cop only get a dollar or is there some other kind of split.
I don't like the idea of the cop gaining anything by writing a ticket but I wouldn't think a cop would do anything for a dollar that he wouldn't do anyway. Figure he works 25 years @240 days per year, that's 6000 days. Ten tickets a day would get him $60k in the pot. Perhaps they would care about a dollar. |

Kinda on topic...
Off to lunch today with a buddy from work and as we turn underneath the highway (cloverleaf turnabouts, one lane) we notice it's all backed up after we actually make it halfway 'round underneath... Turns out that cops had blockaded the other end of it and were inspecting each and every vehicle that passed through for current registration and front plates. The best part is that they were actually stopping folks and having them attempt to pull over as close as possible to the curb in this little one lane cloverleaf as the rest of us tried to squeeze by... Gotta love it. More than one car had their reverse lights on. Felt like cattle. Yeah yeah I know - just doing their jobs. I know I felt much safer afterwards. |

Wow, that was real safe what the cops caused......
So if a cop writes a $60 dollar ticket, he gets $30 out of it, right? |

I know of some cops who recieved $1 per ticket as a bonus. One cop wrote about 400 tickets one month.
