It has been around for quite a while. FYI if the safety feature is triggered, it does major damage to the saw. I believe someone said it cost $500+ to repair the saw each time it triggers. Although that is a very cheap price to save a finger.

a $500 dollar repair does sound like a lot. but like you said, it would be cheaper than a trip to the hospital, all the medical costs while at the hospital, etc.

besides, give the guy a hospital aspirin, and it is $500 isnt it?

This is very timely... I'm in the market for a table saw too. Had a mitre saw backfire on me a couple times... scared the crap outta me (no damage other than a fat bruise on my thumb- thank GOD). Where do you buy one? Don't remember seeing it at Home Depot.
