Not at all, not being a member has very little to do with it, there are many folks on here that are not members and have a lot of good input....there are others on my ignore list that are members.

I would agree that a Vacheron Constantin is a very fine watch. It is one of the "big three" of watch making and the oldest manufacturer. They make the most expensive watches in the world and have the lowest output. The Royal Eagle is kind of a "hit or miss" type of watch. You either like it, or you don't.

Investigate before you buy. Only buy from a reputable dealer. Never on ebay. Vacherons were never really knocked off, but now the knock-offs are becoming more common. The best site on watches out there that I have found is

Fine Watches, Food, Wine, and other interesting passions - ThePuristS

You cannot get alot for your money. The dollar is very poor. Watch manufacturers are raising their prices LOTS. That being said, however, you can get that Royal Eagle for 9k. 16k is a ripoff. Make a check for savings of money to:

I make a post on the OFF TOPIC board trying to spur a discussion about priorities and how modding your Viper fits into that scheme and the haters come out the woodwork. Wow.

Car buyer: Hey, I'm thinking of buying a new Viper. What do you think?

Prius Owner: I can't think of a worse thing to spend your money on. I got a car that does everything a Viper can do and better. Better MPG, lower maintenance costs, easier to drive and park, cheaper to insure, and I can carry seat more than two people.

Car buyer: But a Viper has so much prestige!

Prius Owner: Prestige! Prestige is spending your money wisely on a car and putting the rest in good investments. I could have four Prius cars in my driveway for one Viper. Now that would be prestige! Let me tell you, my Prius will get me from point A to point B much more efficiently than a Viper.

Car buyer: Well.... I don't know....

Prius Owner: Hey, what are you even talking to me for! This is the Prius Chat forum and you haven't paid your dues! Nothing you say has any meaning here. Only dues paying Prius owners can offer words of wisdom. I only want to hear things from people like me with the same opinions, not from you outsiders. Now go away!

There's a big difference between the type person who drives a Prius and one who drives a Viper. As you said, you could buy several Prius' for 1 Viper. Therefore, I don't think its a stretch to ask the Viper owner to pay $115 to support the VCA. I have several people in the GA Club who pay their dues and don't show up to any events. They are just paying the $$ to help support the VCA National/VCA-GA. The VCA does a TON for us, asking a person who drives a $30k-100k (Gen 1 all the way to the 08' ACR) car that gets under 20mpg on premium gas to join the club isn't likely to take any meals off their table. I don't know about other clubs, but at least as a GA member, you get WELL over $115 worth of benefits when you join. Just this month alone, we're paying almost $100 in show fees AND a free meal at the upcoming meeting for any VCA-GA member. So, being an "outlaw" Viper owner is not only being a cheapskate, you're also missing out on lots of benefits that far outweigh the membership costs.

Gee, and I thought you only took pictures. Well put opinion. I just think that asking weather a person should by a watch or buy chrome or anything for their car, sounds like something a kid would ask.Oh, I wonder what I should do today- pick my nose or scratch my ass.

I was just poking fun and all the bickering going on. I actually agree with your statements, (though not some of the others stated previously.) As for myself, I renewed my VCA membership as I have since the first year I owned a Viper - and it is a great deal for any Viper owner, as I think almost all VCA members would agree. I buy raffle tickets every year to support the organization, I am an officer in our region, etc. Sure, he is missing out on the benefits of VCA membership, but this is an open board and Viper owner or not he is welcome to use the forum and post regardless. But this thread really is really getting morphed into something which was not intended...

PS - I also own a few nice watches

Don't buy the tires. Buy the watch. It will enhance your appearance when your old tires cause a Viper bite and the EMT's are wheeling you into the emergency room. Too many Viper owners defer getting new tires. In my opinion, there is nothing more important than having safe tires.

With that said, if you are going to avoid getting the tires anyway, consider a Panerai Luminor GMT. I have had one since 1997. It is my favorite everyday watch.

Because looking like a head of lettuce is much cooler than owning any watch or wheels.

BTW....this is the potentially the most ridiculous thread I have seen....anywhere.

A thread so bad that Hockeysnake comes out of hiding behind the net to take the gloves off! Hockey you gotta remember that some of us aren't ballars/puckers like you - our resources are limited - we have to prioritize our spending! Hope things are well in Texas.

Things in Texas are great.

I had to chime in on this one as the debate that spooled off within this thread became just plain stupid.

I hope all is well in PHX.

I'd rather buy a great new stainless watch than new wheels/tires for Viper.

Unlike some of my Viper co-workers I'm not that much of a watch enthusiast. My portable timepiece is a $60 Casio that I'm not too concerned with wearing while at work. It syncs three times per day with the atomic clock signal in Ft. Collins, Colorado and is the most accurate watch I've ever owned at any price. It has more gadgets than I'll ever use and probably some that I don't even know about.

Anyway, my $2,000 money for a set of tires recently went toward a new set of LG clothes processors. Hey, they make a really cool jingle. The tires will have to wait for some other time. Plenty of tread left and only 10 years old.
