Lots of ways to do it if you know how and depends on how much you want to spend. The less you know, the more you'll need to spend. In the end... it's probably cheaper to pay for DSL. ATT has a first time DSL subscriber special for $10/mo.

Dave,

If you have a wireless card you can see which of your neighbor's have a wireless router that is unprotected. At our Henderson home there were no less than 7 unprotected routers that I could snag and use. It's unreal how many people are clueless! I could even guess who they were by the names they choose like golf nut or day trader. Of course you could always move back to the District as Panera was right there.

They have it but it's not free(well not at mine). You have to pay something like $2 for 2 hours if you want to use it.

DSL is just a type of broadband connection. WiFi is the technology that allows you to share a broadband connection (DSL, Cable, T1, DS3, etc) wirelessly.

Since we're not allowed to discuss unlawful activities here ("borrowing" internet is unlawful), I will bow out of discussing amplifying signals and cracking wireless passwords... but there is a huge resource on the web if you want strictly for "informational" purposes.

Dam, Dave you move around!

Were saying good buy to the Bay Area. Looks like the house in Henderson will be home for awhile.

Airports are not all free...most charge about $10 for 24/hr, most hotels are now charging too, about the same rate. Starbucks is truly free, but not that fast as you share it with everyone else in there.

As for doing it at home, I don't know of any legal/ethical/morally correct ways of doing it.
