I would like to reduce brake dust on my 04 SRT/10. There are EBC Greenstuff and Hawk HPS brake pads. Has anyone used the Hawk? I know a few guys who like the EBC greens but how are the Hawk and do they run cleaner? I'm talking normal street use not on the track!

EBC Greens but paint the rears black with VHT1500, tape off the pad material. You don't need to see the green.

Not sure you need to paint the pads in the SRT. The rear caliper is similar to the front caliper, and unlike the Gen I/II, does not show off the pad backing.

Whichever you choose, don't just replace the pads and come back complaining that they squeal. Do it right, buy the 3M Brake resurfacing kit and scuff the rotors and remove the old residue. Follow the brake in process to a tee.
You'll be happy you took the little bit of extra time. |

I'll have Chuck Tator (Viper Wizard)do the work! I see the Hawks advertised, just was curious which one has less dust or is better?

I have the Hawks on my Mitsu, not sure what "flavor" they are.
And as far as dust goes, what dust, I don't have any from them. |

I called EBC and they told me not to use Greenstuff on a viper. They said to use their REDSTUFF brake pads. They said the greenstuff will not hold up to the heat generated by the viper brake system.
If you can not find these email me and i will help you out. |

We use a ton of Brakemans, but then they are mainly a race pad, but I do not know who you talked to at EBC, but we have used them for over 3+ years and they are fine for street driving. We mentioned long ago that this was not a track pad, but normal street use it works just great. We often recommend them to folks who have that type of driving pattern. I imagine the reference to reds was for track use, as I have never heard this statement before. If you want less dust and squeal , then EBC is the way to go, and not just because we sell them, but because the Hawks are still going to have this problem. Few ever go back to stock, as they are super pricey and they do squeal like a banshee.

Pemberton..... you are "a god", and so right, as usual!
The EBC Greens remain the pad mod of choice by the vast majority of the Viper Nation, But, no, those Greens are not made to handle the high sustained heat loads generated at the road course. They excel at reducing noise and keeping dust to almost nothing. "Ain't no free lunch!" If people want to go racing on EBC's, then they need either the Reds, Yellow or Blue. Stay away from Blues for street, because they actually NEED high heat to work properly, such as even pre-heating taps on the pedal prior to final braking. Although still not recommended for the street by EBC, lots of guys tell me they are doing double duty street and track driving with Yellows, and they love them as an alternative to swapping pads all the time. I used to run Brakemans before the EBC's, and they are also a great high performance pad if you have no problems with all the black dust, which I found to be even worse than factory Brembos. Anyway..... when I grow up I want to be just like Bill and Bob! If eveyone had their spirit of character and integrity, the whole year would be just like Christmas all the time! Happy Holidays to all! |
