Yea, I did but no one was in and being around Christmas I figured they wouldn't be. Thanks for the heads up. That seems cheap!

I had DLM install the SC with the cooler and pump. As mentioned it was around 1000 installed. Worth every dollar paid.

Pic of DLM cooler and pump compared to stock Paxton.

Call DLM

Hey Hiss, what are the dimensions of the DLM intercooler including thickness?

I assume it mounts in front of the radiator? If so, I wonder if it could be mounted elsewhere with a couple SPAL fans?

Thanks!
Jim

Jim-Here are the measurements

24"- wide
7 1/2"- Height
1 1/2 - thick

It does fit in front of the radiator. As far as fitting elsewhere - be difficult to do.

With the DLM install and the cooler & pump- during the very hot weather the Viper ran at 200-205 degree around town and less on the highway. No problems with over heating.

With the 08 hood the Viper even runs cooler.

The purpose of the intercooler/aftercooler is to cool the charge of air going into the engine so that the air is more dense and the explosiuon in the cylinder more powerful. As Doug said, it does not eliminate heat soak. It also is not a part of the cooling system of your engine unless I am missing something. Please explain.

I understand that

The reason for my statement was that some feel the added cooler in front of the radiator especially the larger DLM cooler may cause the car to over heat. Ive had pm's asking me this after the sc install. I may be wrong but I think Jim had this concern about the large cooler installed in front of the radiator.

I had the same concern and DLM assured me that the larger cooler in front of the radiator would not cause the engine to over heat, and it did not. In fact my Viper engine stock ran 200-205 degree, and sometimes would reach 210-215 and with the large DLM cooler in front of the radiator it has never reach the 210-215.

it allows more air in and around it to get to the radiator helping it cool the engine temps....

Hi Bob,

Yes, you did get a little side tracked - we are talking about the front mount intercooler (in front of the radiator). This is where SC/Turbo cars in general, compromise the thermal efficiency of flowing ambient air into the vehicles radiator. Most prominent on air/air intercoolers.

It's a double edge sword; the "front mount intercooler" is cooling down the supercharger's or turbo's boost, yet blocking the ambient air flow to the radiator. The radiator doesn't get enough air flow to provide adequate heat exchange to the car's radiator, therefore heating up the engine's cooling system's temperature.

The reason we typically encounter this on air/air intercoolers is the coolers "core thickness" needed to provide adequate cooling and lower psi (boost pressure) loss. And of course if the intercooler is mounted on-center of the radiator.

Our DLM front mount air/water cooler is very thin, so it negligibly restricts the ambient air flow to the vehicles radiator.

I hope this helped with any confusion.
Doug

Thanks for the reply Hiss. Your right, heat is my main concern. With the
air-to-air intercooler that I'm running which entirely covers the radiator and is 3" thick, she runs way too hot in the summer months. It sounds like the DLM air/water setup may help this issue greatly.

jim, you will need an air/water cooler (aftercooler) AKA the brick as well....and some fab work.

im trying to find a brick myself to do this.

I hear ya Phil, my brains been squirming like a toad regarding that one. With our additional injector setup, it will have to be a custom charge cooler (as you stated, some fab work on the piping).

As an alternative, we could delete the additional injectors and go with fuel rails on the motor w/ bigger injectors, and use the Paxton charge cooler. But that might get expensive.

Just brainstorming here on the rest of the system…..I’m also thinking about installing water injection. The tank is 2.5 gallons and fits great behind the passenger side wheel well. The plan would be to run insulated lines to the intake. So just thinking out loud, why not use that tank as a reservoir for the water/air intercooler as well and mount the pre-cooler to the belly pan (drill some hole in the pan for ventilation and add a SPAL fan). The result would be even less restriction at the radiator.

Hey Jim,

Let me know if you need some assistance - you won't have to change any injectors!

Best regards,
Doug

Doug,

I have your tensioner system and cooler installed on my car. Great products, but is there a plan in the future for mounting brackets of some sort for the DLM charge cooler? Mine is held in place by tie wraps and I think at some point, probably at an inopertunitive moment, a tie wrap is going to break.

Hello Fast Too,
I really appreciate your support! The reason I utilize the zip ties instead of "fixed brackets" is because the front cooler is VERY fragile, you actually want it to move or break a zip tie, otherwise if we were to fasten it too securely, a good hard bump to the front end will indeed break the cooler. The cooler extends very close to the bottom of the belly pan; more surface area, but easier to bump.

If it would give you some piece of mind, I could attach fixed brackets to your unit (free of charge ) and get it right back to you asap. It would be my pleasure.

Also, make certain to fasten the lower bottom of the cooler to the Power Steering hose.

Thanks again!
Doug

Doug - Appreciate the explanation as to the rational on the tie wraps. Thanks for the great offer on installing fixed brackets but I sure don't want to break my cooler, so I'll leave as installed now that I understand the why. Also, thanks for being a great sponsor to the site and keep kicking out these great products.
