Default Question regarding "Jet-Hot" Coating on 2008 Belanger Exhaust Tip . . .

I had my 2008 Belanger headers/exhaust package installed a few hundred miles ago and even though I have not yet hit the magic 500 mile "break in" mark where the ECU adapts to the new hardware, the package has been great from both a power and sound perspective. (I will post some before and after sound clips and dyno runs once Ihit about 1,000 miles with the Belanger package.)

I had Lou Belanger coat the exhaust tips a matte black color to better match the exhaust surround port on the Viper. Here's a pic:

I just noticed that when the car is hot and running, one of the Belanger exhaust tips rubs slightly on the exhaust surround port which has rubbed off a small 2'' strip of the jet hot coating. Interestingly, when the car is shut off and is allowed to cool down, the tip shifts forward so it no longer touches the exhaust surround.

Question, can I or my dealer touch up this section of the jet hot coating with a good temperature resistant paint or does the jet hot coating have to be replaced completely? Thanks.

/Rich

I was told you can use BBQ paint too.

High-temp ceramic paint should also work fine on those tips. DupliColor is a good source.

Here's the stuff Tony referred to in silver. Comes in black also. Got it at O'Reilly Auto Parts here in Texas.

Also, as I just painstakingly spent 1 month fitting side exhaust on my GTS, your side sill needs to be moved back to compensate for the growth of the side pipe when it heats. Dunno how difficult that is to do on the '08, but a great part of my last month was spent checking clearances every time I exhaled too much. Sills on sills off, sills on sills off, sills on sills...

40% of the clearance between the pipe and the hole it comes out in the sill should be toward the front of the car when cold. It will grow toward 50-50.

Alternatively, if your system is not fully welded as I did mine, pull the sill and loosen a clamp on the exhaust and slide the pipes closer together. Shorten it a tad.

i believe when woodhouse installs the belanger system they put the car thru 3 hot/cool down cycles to check the exhaust tip does not rub

Thanks. Yup, on the driver side the placement of the exhaust tip is spot on with the tip actually looking like it is too far forward toward the front of the car. As the exhaust heats up it migrates so that it is exactly centered in the exhaust port. In contrast, the passenger side looks centered when cold but as soon as it heats up it migrates too far backwards and then the rubbing occurs.
