Okay guys I need some help. I had some new mounts created for my moton cannisters in the engine bay. The new brackets will mount the cannisters in front of the cross member. The problem is there is some sort of vacuum thing (for the lack of a better word) in the way. Here it is in a pic:
There are two hoses connected to it which look like vacuum lines. there is also some sort of sensor connected as well. The questions i have is: 1. What is it? What is its function? 2. Is there flow direction? Meaning is one of the hose connections in and the other out? 3. Does it have to be mounted vertical? Can it be mounted side ways or upside down? Oh by the way, that is not my engine. I wish. Thanks again for your help...

From the service manual on disk I have:
EVAP/PURGE SOLENOID OPERATION The duty cycle EVAP purge solenoid regulates the rate of vapor flow from the EVAP canister to the throttle body. The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) operates the solenoid. During the cold start warm-up period and the hot start time delay, the PCM does not energize the solenoid. When de-energized, no vapors are purged. When purging the PCM energizes and de-energizes the solenoid approximately 5 or 10 times per second, depending upon operating conditions. The PCM varies the vapor flow rate by changing solenoid pulse width. Pulse width is the amount of time the solenoid energizes. INSTALLATION (1) Make sure that you have the proper orientation of the EVAP/Purge solenoid (Fig. 6). This would seem to indicate that there must be some importance to mounting it correctly?

Thanks John. I guess it is taking the fumes from the gas tank and dumping them into the throttle body. I guess it some type of valve that opens and closes. Just need to know whether it is affectives if not mounted upright.

Yep, as posted above, Evap Purge Solenoid.
No, is shouldnt matter if its mounted upright or not, though I believe there is flow direction on that valve. (check the sides for arrows or markings) I think I remember seeing them. If nothing, then no direction. PS- Sorry we never came through on the Moton Mounts! The machine shop we used to deal with has been replaced, and that was a shelfed project with them- I completely forgot about them, though they are on the list to do with the new shop. When we bring them out, if you want a set, they are yours, no charge.

Thanks Dan. Your help is always appreciated. The one thing I did notice is that the bottom is labeled as such. Still think it is okay?
Dan I understand since it is not a high volume part but does require some expensive machining. On the otherhand I will never turn down something that is free. Quote:

As long as you will actually install/use them and post a picture/review, its all worth it! I would of course ask at that time when I have a picture available before having you go through with it.

Dan any luck? Did you get a chance to take a look at the valve?

PM'd you. In short, do not mount the valve upside down or change hose orientation.
