Default $5,000 for (4) Coilover Shocks?

One thing I noticed at the SRT Driving Experience is they had a MOPAR SRT Parts display. I went looking for some Viper SRT-10 parts among the Caliber, Jeep, Charger stuff and observed these (circled) at close to $5 grand for the set. Why so much and why would one want to spend that much on them?

Not sure what is in the picture but i can tell you an adjustable coil over suspension for the Viper is worth the money - okay at least to me. You get a completely adjustable suspension, adjustable ride height, better ride and better handling.

Keep in mind $5000 is a bit high. More like $4,000.

Those are the KW III's, same as the new ACR. 5K msrp, can be bought for 15% - 20% less. I got my KW II's from Jonb for $3.1K.

Have you priced Moton's?

You may not see the value/price equation, but alot of people do.

Those may be similar, but they are not the exact same ones on the ACR.

Here are the ones on my ACR.

I have seen the blue colored coilovers in the Mopar catalog and I do not believe they are the same as the KWs. The general consensus is that that the Motons or the KWs offer better quality for the buck. I am not sure, however, who makes the coilovers for Mopar.

Jon B or anyone else know?

I work at a company which supplies many (or most) of the F1 teams today, and costs can be quite surprising for street folks.. (don't ask.. it's way much more.. custom high end / tech jobs for that particular race car chassis). Dampers can get extremely complex, and we provide the ultimate dampers regarding technology, and more than the "mid stream" damper manufacturers...

There's more than looks, absolutely not to disrespect comments / replies.. it's all about getting the right damper for your car, and then having the adjustment, performance, durability and consistency at high temps on top of that for setup at different tracks. $5k is reasonable for street / track duty.

You can spend as much as you want, then again... that goes for practically any hobby eh' , and the point is.. can you appreciate the performance aspects or return on investment?.. if not, don't buy them, they may be overkill for your needs / skills..
Mike

PS - there's more info on our corp website to share rather than babbling, see Dynamic Suspensions there are software downloads Dynamic Suspensions , SpecFinder Dynamic Suspensions and all sorts of info available to learn about dampers. We do not sell to the public, mostly dealing with OEMs and race teams. For example, see the DSSV Technology Dynamic Suspensions, it's the most high tech damper in the industry / racing world today.

Other than this MuscleJunkie, I'm just sharing info and I can't sell you guys anything.. hope the reply helps!

Don't take it to heart just think of it as you spent the time to give a intelligent response and educate the members. I like it when I'm the last poster because that might mean I have answered the question so well that there's nothing more to say.

I thought it was right on

Sorry about that - its been a pretty busy week and I had not remembered to check this thread until now. Thank You all for the very informative replies. I think it would be pretty interesting to drive another car that had this setup to see what the SOTP feel is. Based off what was described here, it seems to me that it would be something fairly significant.

Moton ClubSports are a *big* improvement over stock... they will set you back about $5K properly setup but it's well worth it. Oh, and the Mopar acr version is still pricier.

Here are the ones on my ACR.

I have the KW's as well and they are variant2, NOT the ones with the external resevoirs, as seen on the ACR.

Still a HUGE improvement over stock.
