I was hesitant to spend money on the Corsa's after hearing that the catbacks for the 2008 really didn't make the cars any louder, so I figured I would try the car with open cats, and a straight pipe to replace the mufflers. The car sounds almost the exact same at idle and cruising in 6th gear at 80mph. Startup is more aggressive, and the car likes to pop a lot more. When you are on it, it is pretty aggressive from the outside. Not a bad deal for $200. I will re-dyno the car soon to figure out how much power I have lost without the mufflers and will report back when i can.

Just curious why you didn't do with HF cats? Cost?

I didn't want to mess with anything that would throw a CEL (although this gave me a scare 2 weeks ago). If I lost a substantial amount of hp, then I will go back to the stock mufflers, but right now I'm enjoying the sound.
Don't get me wrong, I would love to own a set of Belangers, but that won't be anytime soon as I have a lot of other things I need to be spending money on. I actually had a couple of VCA members think that it was a Belanger setup when I drove up to a meet Saturday night (they brought their Belanger equipped 08 Viper). It actually sounds better in person than what I could record. Jason |

Jason, that car is wicked sounding!!! Hearing it person...ya, the audio file doesn't do it justice. And sounded great on the highway when hearing you pass someone.

It's all a matter of opinion anyway. I guess everyone finds their own path to the same place. ![]()

That doesnt sound like really loud... I thought no mufflers and no cats would be insanely loud, to the point that other members in previous threads talked about ear plugs... it should be no where near "The car sounds almost the exact same at idle and cruising in 6th gear at 80mph"

damn that has to be loud as f-k in the cabin. Mine has high-flow cats and Magnaflow mufflers, and it is still too loud to me at ~1800-2200 rpm.

I swapped out the stock mufflers and went to a very small magnflo muffler
(18" long by 4" diameter) kept the stock tips, the sound hardley changed just some popping actually more like thunder rumbling (I do like the RUMBLE)when backing down at about 1500 rpm. I also read about the ear plug thing, which kept me from going to straight pipes from the cats back. I think if I change again I may just eliminate the second cat or "hollow" it out. to keep the stock look and length and reduse expense! Cost was $298.00 all 304 stainless. I will have some 400 series stainless made to extend the tips out about 1/2" when I do the next exhaust mod. Should have done this the first time |
