Default Mile Runs in the Gen IV

I left early. Best run of 3 was 179mph.

3:55 gears-Mopar Computer-Belanger Headers & Exhaust. 7mph headwind.

Two ZR-1's ran best of 176 and 179 mph. Owners stated they were unmodded.

I am sure Fiskegts will post more times later when he gets home.

The 3:55's seem to be perfect for the mile run. Pulls hard till about 5400rpm in 5th and goes through the traps at 5700rpm. Still pulling but I would guess it would take another 1/2 mile to get through the remaining 500rpms to the redline. If getting to redline in 5th is even possible.

Man I am shocked with your mods that the ZR1's were that close.

Congrats on running the car!

So what your saying for us ACR folks is that its a trade-off with all the drag...and we are relagated to the 170 and below crowd.

can I ask if you had a little more distance what top speed do you think you would hit? I had a 2001 Trans Am that made a little over 500 hp and I had 3.42 gears. I got the Granatelli 200mph speedometer put in it because I kept burying the 155mph speedo. I found a "private" section of road between St Lake city and Boise Idaho where I had about a 10 mile straigh away and according to my speedometer I hit 188mph. it got really light feeling and I did not try to see if it would go any faster. this speed took a few miles to get up to so I am in awe that your VIper hit 170ish in one mile. very nice.

Don't really know. If it can hit the redline in 5th maybe high 180's due to the 3:55's.

thanks Ray. Vipers are amazing. I am positive that the viper cuts through the air way better than my TA did. I am sure in a 2 mile run the viper would hit 190+. I do not think there would be much difference between the 3.42's I had and the 3.55's. I tried 6th gear and the TA died so my 188 was at the top of 5th gear. again it took several miles to get up to that speed not one mile like your 170+.

Been on here for over a year and still will get a Viper some day.

just for the fun of it info..... we ran or stock 08 non-aero coupe up to 190 in 5th the other day. It was more than a mile not sure the distance since we were already cruising at 75 when a diablo came along side. somewhere around 140 in 4th (not much time for looking at speedo) then shifted to 5th and got a hard pull and major speed increase to 190 before letting off, not sure if that was top speed but it was fast enough!

I ran 170mph at the Texas Mile into a 25-30mph headwind with 900 miles on the odometer. I think the stock 08-09's are good for 176-178mph on a good day.

Just a thought, from a 30 year drag racer, would 6th be better and use the torque from the lower rpm? I have never been over 150 so I am not sure what the rpm drop would be from 5th to 6th at that speed.

The gearing is too low for 6th gear to be of any use in a pull to the mile.

I just thought with the 3.55 gear the rpm drop percentage between 5th and 6th would be less, plus he was turning 5500 to 5700, I guess I was just thinking out loud.

Looking to do some mile type runs in 2010. Those of you that have, did you block off the air ducts to the front brake rotors? I was working under the car the other day and would think anything that doesn't put air under the car would help. Any opinions?

Cheers,
George

With the new 2010 Viper's lower 5th gear ratio, how much do you guys that run the mile think this will help?

I haven't calculated it out, but the lower 5th gear with 3.55's might be the ticket for a speed run up to about 190 mph or so in the mile. That would definately be uber super car territory for an otherwise stock or mildly modded Gen IV.

Cheers,
George

With Belanger/Corsa and Mopar PCM, air deflector gone and hood vents out. Lowered 1.5" with Motons 1/2" of rake.

3.55 and .74 gear is 199 at 6500 rpm, with a 2010 .80 it is 184mph.

My car with the 3.73 will do 190 pretty quick in 5th. With the stock gear in mine I have hit 5850 rpm, speedo said 220 but you know that is way off I'm thinking 208ish.

Fiske are you going to the mile run on March 14th? I know Plum doesn't want to leave the snow in Jersey to come down and play

Thanks. I think people with the least racing experience would enjoy trying it. Just you and your car as fast as you feel like going in one mile. No pressure.

I'll be doing it again in March.

Nice times. I guess it comes down to the gearing. On a good air day Im thinking the 08-09 and deffinately the 2010's should consistantly be between 175-180mph. Those ZR1's are pretty stout at 179mph. Also for reference the old SLR Benz I read did 182mph. These are some very fast stock cars to be pushing 170-180mph.
